  1. jgx is right. The mic is not the problem, it is the software on the unit that is not processing/cancelling sound properly. A very directional mic might help ever so slightly but it won't be a real fix. It is such a basic function and such a major function too, that it just kills me how Pioneer seems to have written it off...
  2. Uncle Buck, did you ever get that CAN-BUS working? I have my Nissan Titan factory DVD working with the AVIC Z1 but the wireless headphones quit and there is a ton of noise over the audio. BTW - gadget, cool name! hehe Did you verify your rear control setup yet? Thanks! Just trying to decide if I should invest more time & money getting the rear DVD entertainment setup working 100% or not. Do either of you have engine noise while watching videos? I haven't been able to fix that issue yet. I have replaced all stock components except the rear DVD unit and I still have noise!
  3. OK. Turns out my IR blaster that feeds audio to the wireless headphones is out. My kids tell me it used to work but is now dead. I believe it happened after my installer put a noise filter on the video's audio feed. Anyway, the rear player is still under warranty with the car & the dealership will cover it if they can determine if audio is actually being routed to the IR blaster. They said, on the original head unit, there was a function to turn the rear panel off and on and that this may be to blame (rear panel turned off). So, question is: Anyone know which wires control this?
  4. We should lock this thread since there is no recall... IMO
  5. Well, I have had the in-dash nav for an '05 Nissan Altima and an '06 Ford Explorer, and a Garmin StreetPilot 7200 and now the Avic Z1. The "best" navigation for me was the Garmin StreetPilot but it is not in-dash. There are more POI's in the Z1 than in either the Ford or Nissan products. There is no Lat/Long input for any unit I've had except the Garmin. All-in-all, the Z1 is a respectable unit but it does lack a bit of "fine grain" control and accuracy. It will generally get you from point a to b safely. But, as others have said already, the map software is out-dated by as much as two y
  6. Would this upgrade be separate and different than a map update? I'd love to just update the mapping but don't want to tweak my bypass!
  7. I have a ShieldZone "Full" set applied to my Macbook Pro (covers ouside lid, bottom, palm rest, touch pad, touch pad button). It looks great and is tough as nails. If you want top protection, and based on my experience with their product, I would say $16.95 is not too much to pay. How much was the discount for? Bottom line: Outstanding product in my opinion.
  8. Bummer... Well, no sense spending the money on this then. I guess it is OK for those that don't have or want an actual "iPod" then they too can connect to the Z1. Did you notice that it won't even display directories that don't have music in them? So, don't even think about connecting that USB thumb drive to try and run some kind of app... It only lists supported music files, which, by the way, does not include Apple lossless files.
  9. OK, answered my own question. It is the actual cable. So you have to buy the adapter and the cable separately. It says it offers "direct control". I wonder what that entails? Here is a link to their "uBUS" http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/top/cat/article/0,,2076_310069607_405683232,00.html EDIT: Looks like it does work with the Z1: Using as an external unit The following head units operate this unit as an external unit. For more details about the external unit, refer to the head unit’s manual. ! 1KEY to 6KEY doesn’t be used to operate this unit. Head unit gr
  10. It says it requires a CD-IU50 too. I did a search on Pioneer's site but it did not get any hits. Any ideas what the CD-IU50 is?
  11. You may find these are also compromised accounts. Fake or being "used". As everyone else says, do not do business with these people!
  12. tillithz, do you NOT have any hiss? I removed my factory setup (head unit, all speakers and sub) and used an external amp. All professionally installed. All new wires, no factory re-use. I did retain my factory rear DVD setup that plays both audio and video to the Z1. I get hiss all the time. I'm betting this is the cause of my hiss... I have an appointment Saturday to have the system rechecked and to add the iPod controller. Any thoughts as to what to have the installer pay close attention too? This will be his 3rd attempt at removing hiss. I think he put a filter on before but it d
  13. You know what I have noticed on occasion, is that if I take or place a call and simply turn my phone off without clearing the last caller, the very next call will sometimes display on the caller ID as the previous caller. That is with a Windows Mobile 5 phone (both PPC-6700 and Samsung IP-830w). What kind of phone are you using?
  14. As of 01/17/2006, in the Gracenote database: 5,604,887 CDs 71,758,373 Songs That's a lot of music!
  15. Not yet but I can confirm the single layer discs work fine. I've been tempted to do a double. According to the program I use, it will work. Can't see why not as the Z1 treats the DVD music disc as a standard DVD and dual layer DVD video works great already. I'd say there is no doubt it would work... But, I haven't acutally done it yet!
  16. it seems you have the older version of nero than i do and yeah i remember those features at that time i din't have the z1 i tried what i had on my version and it said unreadable disc i would try "make mp3 dvd" and see if it works on yours but im thinking about finding that mac program that Inspector_Gadget has if it is available for windows i doubt it gotta get me one of those macs post up later with updates For sure you cannot burn MP3's to DVD at all for use in the Z1. What you can do is burn almost the equivalent amount of music on a "Audio DVD" or "Music DVD". The equivalent P
  17. Sorry. Yes. I was able to go to Google Images and download the album art as JPG files and put them into Toast Titanium (Mac thing), then burn the Music DVD. Now, on my menu I have album art for each title. Each title is selectable on the menu, to play. Then as each song plays, I have album art too. It is kinda cool the way it works... I choose which album to play off of a menu (like a standard DVD menu), then when the album is playing, the album art shows AND next to that, all the songs from the album are listed. There are on-screen arrows to choose songs and/or albums. To top it all o
  18. If not posted yet, the Samsung ip-830w (Sprint) works great. This is the same as the i-830.
  19. The disc, once made, turns out to be a true DVD. It has VOB and FOB files. In fact, I have about 17 hours of music on one right now! I guess what it does is compress however much you put on it til it fits... (Within reason, I would bet). You can customize it to a certain bit-rate but then you get much less on the disc. I was able to successfully make one with all the album art but no video. Haven't figured that one out yet.... I don't think it is possible for the average program like Nero or Toast. But... You never know! Anyway, the music is compressed, but not to MP3 specs. Not exact
  20. Actually, I think the American one is newer. EU is May and US is June although the version numbers are different. But, maybe that is just a housekeeping thing to tell them apart. Did you notice that Pioneer says, "The Gracenote CDDB database for your AVIC-Z1 is updated every 6 months". They are getting a little behind... Hope it comes out soon. I have a three albums that do not show up...
  21. OK, this is too cool. I created another Music DVD and I used graphical menus to display all the albums on my Music DVD. I can press the Menu key on the Z1 which takes me to all the albums. I cannot select them via touchscreen but can using the on screen directional arrows. Also, I can use the playlist forward and back hardware keys to move from album to album. I can fit, I think, 6 or 7 hours of music on a single layer disc and double that on a double layer disc. In fact, I don't currently have enough music to fill a double sided disc... PS- I hope I am not sounding too excite
  22. It works! I am so happy! I used my Macbook Pro and burned a "Music DVD" using Toast Titanium. I even get a graphic, the title to the song, and the album title while playing. I was able to burn 5 albums to one DVD-R (4.7GB). I opted to have it NOT use menus. I wonder what happens if I choose menus? hehe I'm going to try...
  23. Mine did that almost every time on the first call received after my BT phone connects to the Z1. Each successive call does not result in the loud POP! I just did the Z1 update this morning, so I will test it this evening on my way home to see if I get a pop still... Not sure if it matters, but it happens wth my PPC-6700 phone and my Samsung IP-830w phone. Both are Windows Mobile 5 phones.
  24. Hum.... Then, I wonder if I have my facts backwards? Did you try initiating the pairing from the nav unit first? I know that one of the two ways puts me in an endless passkey circle...
  25. I would like to have Speed Sensitive Volume. Go SSV! Let's put that speed sensing wire to better use... Also, I agree that letters are a great idea.
