1. Garret, it was very nice meeting you, and thank you for letting me interrupt your evening and come get my drive updated. I'm already seeing a difference in the maps, and I've updated most of the albums in the library that had no info before. Thanks again for the fast and courteous service
2. Thanks for the tip. I downloaded that program and it worked. I guess the ISO recorder program burned in a different format or something. The file structure on the CD looked the same. Oh well, it works now.
3. It does, but it opens the same program, the Iso Recorder. If I were to view the CD in windows explorer, what should it look like? in the root I have some folders and some files. I don't have Nero or anything else on this computer.
4. I bought a new car for my Z1 (LOL) and I figured while I was installing it I would wire up the 2-wire bypass. I wired it through a SPDT switch so I could have it in bypass mode, or normal parking brake mode. Anyway, I read that you are supposed to insert the update CD and press "MAP" to do the update. But, it's not working. Am I supposed to put the CD in and press MAP right away, or wait until after it checks the disc and says "CD ROM inserted"? I've tried it both ways, so I guess I burned the file wrong??? I unzipped the file, and then using ISO Recorder I did "Copy image to CD" on the

that was cool. Here was my first attempt, I'll try again when I'm not tired

TIME CHANGE?

I just went to that same menu section and turned on "summertime". It added 1 hour for me.
7. Yes, that's exactly what you do. Snap the kit into the 2nd position and it will fit flush.
8. Do you have any of the "listening environments" turned on (studio, living room, etc.)? I know that when you turn those on it adjust the time delay of the speakers to create the envinment and the rears always sound a lot different from the fronts.
9. It will be fine as long as it isn't touching. Have you calculated how many cubic feet it works out to? I would imagine you will need to put some poly-fil in there (get it at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc.). Use 1 pound per cu. ft.

HD radio??

I wonder if Pioneer is going to release a HD radio module?
11. I have a NIB ipod adapter and I can't decide if I should go ahead and install it or not. After seeing/reading about the new interface cable for the D3 that has video (and I'm guessing a better UI) I'm wondering what the chances are that the Z1 will get the same (or similar) thing? I could still return it to the store before it's opened, or maybe I should just forget it and install it until (or even IF) the new cable arrives. ok everyone, throw in your $0.02
12. Here is a video I found of it. Not having seen the Ipod interface screen myself, can somebody tell us if and how this one looks different from the current one? Does the Z1 ipod screen look different from the Dx/Nx screens? 13. I read this in TWICE (This Week in Consumer Electronics) in their coverage of new products at SEMA this week. [i]Pioneer's new double DIN AVIC-D3 is a DVD-based in-dash navigation device that also offers video playback. It can be used with a new iPod cable to stream video and audio to the AVIC-D3 and it also works with a hideaway Bluetooth module to stream music from a cellular phone or to provide hands-free cellphone communication. It has a 6.1-inch touch display with customizable illumination and comes with maps of the U.S. and Canada and nearly 11 million points of interest. It offers
14. I'm not sure of the D2 has the sound field settings (stage, living room, etc) like the Z1 or not, but if you have that turned on the rears will sound that way. It has to do with time alignment of the sound, similar to a home surround sound system. Give that a try.
15. Yep, it grounds the circuit through the frame of the parking brake assembly to the vehicle. The circuit goes through the instrument cluster so it can light up the parking brake warning light. Positive voltage is introduced into the circuit on the "other side" of the instrument cluster, and since current flows from negative to positive, that single wire would be the positive of the two, even though it shows ground when the brake is apllied.

cars and AVIC-Z1

The Ford 500/Mercury Montego also have a 2DIN hole in the dash. And, with the 6 spd auto, they are rated at 21/29 mpg.

Rear camera help

OK, I may look retarded after this question, but I keep noticing people saying they bought their rear camera with the image reversed. Why exactly would you want the image reversed? Just so it matches the rear-view mirror? I would think that if the camera were mounted lower (like to line up your trailer hitch) you would want the image not reversed. :?
18. Cool, thanks. I'm guessing that the wire will still be gray/black behind the radio? What kind of signal should I get, so I know if I find the right wire or not. Thanks again.
19. Hey cntrylvr79, do you know if the VSS wire is in the radio harness for a 2005 Ford Escape with the Mach 300 stereo (in dash 6 disc changer). And what about where to find the parking brake and reverse wires? I still haven't hooked up those three (yeah, I know I'm being lazy LOL) TIA,
20. Yes, that kit is all I had to use for mounting the unit. You can actually take your factory radio out, trim the plastic inside the dash I spoke of earlier, and install the Z1 w/kit without taking off the bezel (the silver piece that holds the vents and switches and knobs. But, if you want to take the radio back out you have to take the bezel off. I clipped the microphone to the edge of the headliner right beside the little overhead console that has the two lights, the little compartment for the garage door opener and the moonroof switch. I just tucked the wire inside the headliner and
21. Ok, here are some quick pictures. This is with the install kit in the #2 position (depth. You'll see what I mean when you get the kit). You can still go a little deeper if you like (one more position). I haven't messed with the AUX in any more yet. I plugged Sirius' RCA out into the AUX IN RCAs on the Z1 and turned it on in the settings menu, but I got no sound. I plan tomess around with it some more soon, just haven't had time lately.
22. The Mach radio in my '05 says "MACH 300" on the little door that covers the CD slot. Just look for that. Also, on the sub, it's in the side panel, passenger side, of the "trunk" area. It's a perforated grill that says "MACH 300" at the bottom, same color as the interior panel.
23.
...........With my circuit isntalled, you need to unhook the parking brake from the Z1...............
Ahhh, I didn't realize that you recommended not connecting the parking brake wire with your circuit, now it makes sense why you were saying to switch it in and out. Do you recommend not hooking it up just because if someone were to pull it up (or put it down after the bypass is done) the bypass is cancelled and you have tostart over?
24. I just installed a Z1 into my '05 Escape, so yes it will work (loooks sweet too, btw). You will need an American International FM-K552 dash kit. When you take the factory radio out you will see a lip behind the trim (at the top of the opening) and you need to trim about 1/2" of that. You would not be able to tell, even if you put the factory radio back in. Do you have the Mach 300 Stereo? If so, you will need the Metra 70-5521 wiring harness so you can still use your factory subwoofer. If not, you will need the 70-1771 harness. I will get a picture of it in the dash over the w
25. OK, thanks. I guess I'll be ordering a flasher then. I'm confused about one of your statements though. You said that "she will be locked out of most of the features, moving or not.......". If the parking brake was hooked up like it is supposed to be, wouldn't she still be able to park and pull up the brake and get access to those features, as intended? if she want's to navigate while driving, she can use the voice command.
