  1. remove the unit from the dash and have a look? Skippy2

Although I'am not 100% sure, there seems to be a relation with radio station presets and TMC. My 9110 wouldn't had no TMC at all untill I made a selection of presets of radio stations with TMC present. So you might want to try entering a preset station that transmits the desired TMC info, and then use the TMC settings option to skip the unwanted (nrk) frequencies. Regards, Skippy2
  3. I have had to replace my 900BT (was affected by the ipod issue and some jerk stole the unit - and the problem BTW) recently. The new unit is a 9110BT (the 910BT with VW facia plate) and the problem is gone. Biggest difference with the USB connection compared to the 900: the USB is a long cable permanently attached to the unit (no chassis-female USB connector on the back of the unit anymore). Could this be Pioneer concluded that the ipod issue is often related to the chassis connector?
  4. ........... and in that case you can create a backup on your 2nd f700bt!
  5. From the ISO 10487 Car radio connector standard : Pin 2 - mute control - grounded by external components to mute the radio, often used when a mobile telephone is fitted to the car. Once you disconnected the mute from ground, the radio shoulkd play normal volume again and when you ground the PB wire (or pull the parking brake) you should be able to enter the the pass... Also make sure you didn't blow a fuse (either in the car or the avic)
  6. Your problem is with the (required for most input) handbrake ON signal, so why mess around with the mute signal? The handbrake on situation is on the can bus interface and 'translated' in the little box in the harness to a hard ground - handbrake on- or 12 Volts - handbrake off-, to the light green wire from the can interface to the avic. I have the same AVIC in my VW and all I did was cut the light green cable, insulate the wire coming from the can interface and grounding the part going to the AVIC. This way, the avic always senses that the handbrake is applied. Did you have the handbrake o
  7. Getting all satellites to have a perfect SNR would indicate a serious software problem. Even is you assume that all sats are exactly similar in build (antenna, radiated power etc.) and the field of view of your antenna is completely free, which they both are not, they are on different distances to the receiver and since SNR decreases with increasing distance between transmitter and receiver, you should see differances. If you take some time to observe these signal indicators, you should see different sats coming into view, with signal strength increasing as the distance between you and the sa
  8. Without going into too much detail... yes, it is important in antenna design to define a ground plane. On the other hand.. some GPS antenna have a build in magnet to prevent it from moving around. I don't know if the Pioneer antenna has a magnetic base BTW, I didn't install the unit myself. So suppose this antenna needs a metal plane to have optimal performance. The minimal size does matter, larger metal sheets normally have positive or no influence. Do you have to use the supplied sheet? Not when the location you plan to go for is a metal construction part of the car, I'am inclined to say. A
  9. If the antenna amplifier worked OK before the F90BT install, have a look at the connectors... FAKRA connectors can easily (OK, what is easy, you need to put some pressure on it) be connected with the centra pin bent, so effectivily not connecting at all. Also check the connection to the F90BT... my experience with the installation on my VAG car used a crummy 'phantom power supply' that had a wrong size central pin (to short and to small) and a bent FAKRA pin, the system was professionally installed by the VAG dealer -) From : http://www.audicrazy.com/B6A4/Bentley_Audi_A4_B6_Radio.pdf page 19
  10. yes, yes, no, it (the pioneer unit) does a 'search next/previous station' and in the MFD you only get 'audio active' there are rumours about a f9110 for VAG cars, that might display more info though Regards, Skippy2
  11. Change the connection of the red wire to where the yellow is (and vice versa), I don't have the 7010 manual, but my F900BT installation manual has a note on it on page 10....
  12. Do you have a TMC channel provider (see http://www.tmcitaly.it/?q=it) programmed as a preset and good receiption on that channel?
  13. First of all: Check with your car dealer if your car has a antenna signal pre-amplifier build in (most, if not all, windscreen antenna have). If so, check how the this preamp is powered. There are 2 possible ways: either directly (the preamp has its own 12 volt power line) then you just plug in the antenna connector and you are ready, or the power supply 'shares' the antenna cable (then you need to use what is commonly called a booster, but in fact it is nothing more than a simple circuit with a couple of resitors and a capacitor that electronically separates - decouples- the power from the
  14. You can mount it anyway you like (even upside down on the bottom of the car), but for the best possible position resolution you want your (2 pi omnidirectional, so your 'vision' is limited to half a sphere) antenna to see as my GPS satelites as possible. Look at the sat status (sat reception strenght) with the antenna mounted sidesways, and you will see, that part of the sat's that are theoretically in sight are either not received at all or have a severely degraded signal strength, leading to a bigger positional error.
  15. Resetting error code is possible with (amongst others) VAGCOM and a CAN interface, but won't remove the hardware cause of the error, so it will return upun the next diagnostics run. Make sure that all connectors (specifically to the airbags) are well seated and that you did not tap into the wrong wiring. I am not sure if this alert will auto reset upon the next diag run (system startup) so it might still require a rest with VAGCOM or the dealers CAN soft/hardware.
  16. I hope it will do both and maybe even sooner than after 45 days!
  17. OK, that is a very good explanation for the poor performance! The VW factory installed antenna is an active antenna, it has a clever bit of electronics - call it a signal amplifier, for want of a better word- attached. Although I know from experience that most electronics run on blue smoke (if it gets out the thing stops working), in this case it has to have a 12 Volt power input. One way to get that power supply up to the active antenna is to use a phantom power supply, that basically allows you to use the same coax cable that carries the signal form the antenna to the radio. The silver cylin
  18. Right, but there is no active user input or reprogramming of bus controlers required, it's plug and play -) Pity the connnects2 doesn't identify the the AVIC on the VW multi functional display. I wouldn't mind seeing Pioneer AVIC in stead of 'active' in the display. And how about this for a project list... get the AVIC and a CAN interface to display navigational info on the MFD... well, keep on dreaming... the problems are endless, find out what (even if) you can get the AVIC to send to the CAN bus, find or build a two way CAN interface (Rosstech VAGCOM?), talk in different CAN dialects to g
  19. Use ACC OR Aerial power for the phantom feed of the active antenna. Also consider the note in the manual about the current limitation of the aerial output. Regards, Skippy2 PS: and as indicated by vwboy308: connects2 works as advertised, it even displays 'active' in the VW MFD audio screen......
  20. Uploaded the European F900BT V2 flash disk backup. Removed the user specific data (phonebooks, password) files. Regards, Skippy2
  21. Needs minor tweaking in the (no route available) speed/max. speed script to accommodate the hundreds digit in max. speed.
  22. There is an other way to express your gratitude -) Thanks, Skippy2
  23. This combination works, but it took some time to get it going... my previous car had a parrot 3300CK BT unit. To get the contacts from the HTC to correctly sync with the parrot I had to use Jetware (Jetwaremobile.com). This setup refused to correctly sync with the 900BT (with a parrot oem-unit). Contacts were transferred, but with an entry for every telephone number in the book and with errors (names defaulting to none, propably from business contacts without a personal name entry?) and exceeding the maximum allowed number of contacts before the address book was transferred. Using the Jetware
