1. Interesting. I have mine mounted on the dash too. I have not had any problems yet but I will keep an eye out for this as the Florida summer approaches. So far there have been a few days where the temperature was in the high 90's but nothing like 115.
2. Here is a section from the install manual "Since a unique BPTL circuit is employed, do not directly ground the (-) side of the speaker lead or connect the (-) sides of the speaker leads together. Be sure to connect the (-) side of the speaker lead to the (-) side of the speaker lead on this navigation system." Perhaps your negative on the high level outputs are grounded somewhere or joined together?
3.
You are probably better off just getting into the habbit of turning down the volume. It's probably not impossible to try to make something, but I would think the application for such a thing would have very little interest.
I gotta agree with Ducatiboy. Such a device would have to go in between the head unit and the amps in the audio path. Something homemade will be sure to degrade the quality of your audio signal as well. I used to have an Alpine and the gradual increase in volume when powered up was a great feature. I just turn the music down before shutting the car o
4. My speakers are driven by JL Audio amps without any problems. How long does the sound last? Is it a quick 'thump' or does it continue for a few seconds? Are you driving the amps using the high level or low level outputs of the Z1? Are you using the correct turn on lead for the amps? Are you sure that none of the unused wires from the wiring harnesses are accidentally grounding to any metal behind the head unit? These are just a few things that come to mind.
5. I installed the XM tuner underneath the passenger seat. The Bluetooth adapter is behind and below the radio itself. The Ipod adapter is installed under a center compartment between the front seats. I drilled a hole into the compartment for the wire and that's where I place my Ipod. I didn't take any pictures of my install either but I drive a Camry so they probably wouldn't be much help for a truck install anyways. I thought about installing the IP bus stuff in the trunk on my amp rack but decided not to because it's already pretty crowded back there.
6. I have not experienced anything like that. When I first installed XM it took a few minutes to update but I have not noticed anything since. I did have a weird issue over the weekend where none of the XM channels worked except for the test channel. They seemed to tune fine just there was no audio. Other than that one time I haven't seen anything else strange.
7. Seems to be fully functional with my Nokia 9300.

ND-BT1 Stock?

I had the bluetooth adapter on backorder with Crutchfield for over 2 weeks now. Just found out that they shipped mine yesterday.

I have an 02 Camry and use a Scosche adapter kit. I'm not sure about the Rav4 but the Camry stock radio is definitely wider than a standard after market radio so there would be gaps. The adapter I use had my old single DIN head unit along with a pocket to fill the vertical gap. I simply removed the pocket and the Z1 fits. It is not a perfect fit but very close. Without the Scosche kit there would be about a 1/2 inch gap on each side.
10. I have not tested this so please don't take what I am saying as FACT. Given that the unit will obviously read dual layer DVD's (as most movies are nowadays) I would guess that if you mastered your own dual layer disc as a video DVD (don't just dump the files on it) you should be ok. I have played DVD video that I burned on a single layer disc.
11. I mounted my mic on the drivers sun visor on the right side. Works well but admittedly I haven't used it that much. I am waiting for my bluetooth adapter to really test it out.
12. GEX-P10XMT is the model number. Currently $200 at Crutchfield. When I looked they did have one in their "outlet" section for $179. Probably an open box. Pricegrabber shows it for as low as $160 shipped. Depending on how much driving you do $200 can be a pretty good deal if it saves you from numerous hours of sitting in traffic over time.
13.
Do you know what it's like to have a brand new Z1 sitting on your dining table and not be able to use it?
I hear ya man! My unit arrived on a Monday and sat in the box until I had the time to install the next Saturday.
14.
I have also seen a few routing issues compared to other navigation systems that I have used. TomTom has been the best so far in my opinion however none of the systems I have used were perfect either. With the Z1, routing issues near my home are not really a big deal to me. I simply drive the route that I know and eventually the system will adjust. The learning mode has even adjusted to my daily commute route. As for areas that I am not familiar with, at least I can be pretty confident that I will get there. The maps seem to be pretty accurate. At least here in Ta
15. I just got Navtraffic installed last weekend. After one week of use I am mostly pleased but not blown away. I live in Tampa, FL and my daily commute takes me on just about every major highway in the county. I have found the traffic flows on I4 near I275 to be inaccurate. It may be due to the construction there. I'm not really sure. The accident notification was pretty impressive. On my way home tonight I was on the side streets due to some errands I had to run. The system notified me of a car accident ahead. I would have been stuck for a while had I not gone around it. I will
