  1. I don't think it can reroute the iPhone to another display. The cable basically is acting like a TV-OUT in App mode etc. Those are my 2 cents. But I've never read anywhere in the 8400 manual that says you can do this.
  2. Xvid is basically divx. You should be ok there. Check the appendix for your units manual. I have an 8400 and I found after a lot of trial and error the best settings at least for me were: 800x480 MP4 MPEG ( not h.264) with AAC audio. My unit says if can play h.264 1280x720p but I have yet to accomplish this yet. The 800x480 gives the closest ratio that fits the screen with only a tiny bit of black edge. I use this mostly for music video I rip from YouTube. With the P8400 I was able to use the IPOD/USB1 input to toggle from music to video. Just press the magnifying glass s
  3. I'm Happy you guys wrote this. I probably wouldn't have searched for it otherwise, and had no idea this was possible.. I purposely didn't re-download displayOUT (even though I've paid for it) because of AppRadio Extensions when I went to iso5.1.1JB (which broke my photos native pioneer appmode app)... I wish i stayed on ios5.0.1, it seemed to work much better. and last I heard mike decaro couldn't get his device(s) to JB5.1.1 so who knows where testing or development is any more. anyhow. Thanks Original poster and follow-up poster! but it's too buggy.. I'm going to test righ now o
  4. I must say, after using the head unit for a few weeks, I prefer my media on SD over having to connect your iphone. BUT.. the iPhone connection is pretty cool. And the Jailbreak community for it will only get better. HOWEVER with a new iphone coming this Oct, and rumoured new connector PIN adapter (19 not 30)... who knows if they will make an adapter that will work, but my guess is pioneer will need to make a new cable. tech like this get so outdated so quickly. What I was able to do with my phone on a beta JB tweak was play youtube clips, search google maps, and have it on/showing c
  5. if you are running a gps antenna all the time, and it's exposed to sunlight with a constant power supply to keep the screen light, it'll get real hot real fast. I have my iPhone mounted in an adjustable arm the sits right over my vent so I can hit the AC on it if it's a hot one all around. My cable placement on my install however I setup specifically to allow for this. I have an AVH-P8400BH, and hot diggity does the SD Card heat up when it's the main media source. Even after 15 minute drives.
  6. Hello, I am not sure if this will help, but I've been recently filling up a 16GB sd card with music and videos. I have a 2012 AVH-P8400 though for sure I'm promoting a class 10 SD card over all other media connections. it's insanely fast. anyhow.. my head unit has an option to rebuild my SD card database. Did you find you added to the SD card over time new music after you'd played it in your car? Well, at any rate, I've been playing with FAT sorters to re-arrange my card, and also adding more, and testing different video codecs I have. So here is my experience I have noticed
  7. iPod/iPhone use a 30 pin dock connector
  8. Try Jaksta http://www.jaksta.com/
  9. You'll find the DVD read speed and load times a burden playing music. and forget about setting it to Random across folders and having it be quick
  10. I just bought 3 16GB SD cards, thanks for the tip about FAT sorter!
  11. Try to spend 11$ on a ePDF of your vehicles service manual. I got mine for a Nissan 2011 quest online for $10.99. It'll have every last detail about what connections are what so long as its OEM. Best $11 I ever spent. I upgraded stock system with avh8400, new speakers, sub and back up camera. All from referencing tge service manual On my iPhone My mini van is far too loud for anything useful, but my kids watch Yo Gabba Gabba on their way to daycare and just love it
  12. Press the Media button on the SD input screen. it will let you switch between audio/video/pictures. I don't think the folder structure matters. if you have ithem in a folder off of the root of the SD, you will have to touch the folder icon (usually has a number beside it too) to access that folder. I found that my SD input was looking for Movies to play first when I had both movies and pics on the same Card.
  13. Then load up a $10 16GB SD card with all the music you'll ever want, and just forgo docking your iPhone for short trips. You can throw your iTunes downloaded .mp4 files right on the SD card and boom. mimic your itunes library. I'm about to go buy up a bunch of 16GB SD cards to load one with kid tv shows, one with movie, and one with music. Faster reading then discs, even faster then connecting your ipod, and no sync issues with bluetooth auto-connect. Same goes for the USB2 conenction, but it's a pain with the extension cables etc. and mounting a huge drive is slow. SD seems to be th
  14. I too would like to be able to have my presets be the call letters, not the scrolling station name.. I haven't figured this out yet.. I'm a little disappointed, it seems if you can't get HD radio, then the unit kind of fails at local FM quality. I guess I bought it for the iPhone connection not antenna FM, but it's a bit of a nuisance.
  15. Do you have a lot of folders on your drives? There some limitations to how many and how much nesting the software on the head unit can handle.
  16. I don't think so. I have iPhone but the pandora app on your phone needs to be connected so it can transfer account and use the data plan. Bluetooth audio is only audio, not a lot of data other than ID3 tag info abouth the audio. I'm pretty sure pandora doesn't even become available as an option until I plug my phone in with the transfer cable.
  17. to at least test, you can maybe set the reverse polarity to Off, and then manually change to back up camera when you need to, then turn if off when you don't. (ie, do not auto show on reverse gear) I know it sucks to not be automatic, but at least you can use your head unit to the fullest, and not have the camera image locking up. Is power to your camera's PSU being fed from the Reverse tail lamp, or to the Radio Accessory wire? I set my camera Power onto the Reverse wire, didn't even connect the reserve wire form the unit to anything. I know I can't see the reverse driving forwar
  18. If you have the USA version, you have apply, remove and re-apply the parking break. So you can't just wire to ground forever. you need to wire to a simple SPST switch ($3 or less) then wire the other side of the switch to Ground. Then you can press the switch to simulate on off on. You don't need to do this on-off-on for all the head unit functions I have found. I have the 8400BH, and for DVD or SD, I on'y need to ground once, but App mode and iPod video playback I usually need to do the double sequence. Hope that helps. You can also use a replay and not have a switch, but with
  19. You can donate here: http://mikedecaro.com/?s=projects The best part about the battery level is that it's the true battery % on the Appradio display.. iPhone pads their % a bit.. around actual battery charge 96-97% your iPhone will read 100%. then it'll allow the battery to stay charged up to 100% battery capacity. That way the phone looks like it's at 100% for a couple % drops, and make the use feel like their battery is awesome. Try it out with the AppExt setting. Mine always shows a difference of 2-3 % between iPhone and App Mode But I +1000 to getting the little bugs sort
  20. Thank you very much. That makes much more sense then constant power. How does not using the clamp vs tapping into the red ACC wire via cutting it and patching in change things? Or are you more aiming for the connection to be more rugged then the clamp connection? Just curious as the desired result seems to the same. Thanks again!
  21. Thank you Bigdaddyjosh. I've been looking to learn how the 8400 Advanced App Mode compares to AR1 or AR2. Looking forward to my install this week to test all these Iphone apps an JB tweaks. I have a relay for the parking brake but I think I'm going to try the switch to ground wiring first invade firmware updates mess with the relay like with AR1 Thanks for all your hard work Mike on the AppEx code.
  22. You can probably connect that lead to power then to a switch then the other side to where you would have connected the mute wire. Then you flick your switch instead on pressing mute to send the signal along as if it came from the head unit directly.
  23. This forum has been great. Follow-up question after reading this post. My backup camera (Sony) also has a clamp connector to piggy back onto the reverse lamp lead for 12+. Assumingly to only get power for when the car is in reverse. not constantly. But.. As Stated above. The HU will allow me to toggle to my reverse camera for forward operation like towing. However if my camera PSU only turns on hooked to reverse lead, then forward operation won't get a signal with no power to camera AV. I'd like any advice on my options: 1) run the camera to constant 12V (maybe distributed of
