I built a circuit to do this for a customer of mine. Using some relays and a weather proof plug the circuit could tell when the trailer was hooked up. In their case I had the camera on the rear of the trailer, but you could place the camera in the trailer. If you have a fax # I could send over a copy of the circuit and where you can find parts.

07 Silverado Classic questions
shotgun_customs replied to badz24s's topic in Vehicle Specific Wiring
The mute wire should be grounded, but only after you've moved it to the secret pin. The VSS is not behind the radio, it's in pin A4(green/white stripe) behind the cluster. Ill will need to be caught at the convenience center or anywhere else you can find a 12V parking light wire. -
The consinsous is that the Z1 to Z2 map upgrade will make the unit fuction as a Z2. Which means that neither of the Z1 bypasses will work. The upgrade is not avilible yet, so this is all speculation.

Unless the locking tab was broken or the pin was mutilated. Either way not much you can do about it now.

Z2 install, Not sure if all the wires are hooked up?
shotgun_customs replied to Element's topic in Problems/Troubleshooting
Yes, the reverse wire is just for the cam. The ill wire controls the fading of the screen and background of the map at night. -
Try testing w/ a mutimeter and not just connecting the AVIC to it. Does it change status when the truck is put in reverse? Did you turn on the reverse input in the setup menu of the AVIC? Select the right polarity?

Z2 install, Not sure if all the wires are hooked up?
shotgun_customs replied to Element's topic in Problems/Troubleshooting
If the speed pulse does not count up, then your VSS is not connected or is connected to the wrong wire. And yes the unit will still function and the speedo in the vehicle dynamics will still work. Also if the ill and rev's status never changes then neither of those have been connected or are connected improperly. What type of vehicle is it? -
VSS for 2007 Chevy Silverado CLASSIC Old Body Style
shotgun_customs replied to synergyinc's topic in Vehicle Specific Wiring
I looked at my notes and I believe GM did the switch in 05. But we like to keep all of our installs similar, so after I ran into problems w/ the VSS at the radio once, we caught it at the cluster from then on. Just as easy considering we were running wires that way for the ill, rev, and parking brake. -
VSS for 2007 Chevy Silverado CLASSIC Old Body Style
shotgun_customs replied to synergyinc's topic in Vehicle Specific Wiring
The VSS is pin A4, green/white stripe, behind cluster on 2000-2006. On the older models(2000-2002) you could also find it behind the radio. On anything newer than 03 the green/white wire behind the radio will not work. GM switched to a mic for ambeint noise controled volume and no longer used the speed sense. FYI if you disconnect the VSS from the cluster the speedo will not work, but your odometer will not gain miles either. That's why I love the speedo on the AVIC. Just don't cut the wire, you want more warranty not a voided warranty. PM for details. -
You could run the video output from your laptop to the reverse cam input of the Z1, that is if you're not using it for a camera. Then you can select split screen mode from the map screen or run it full screen with a toggle switch on the reverse trigger wire of the Z1. The only thing is it will have the "reversed image" warning at the bottom of the screen.

Do you have the VSS wire connected? The easiest place to find it is at the cluster, Green/White Stripe, pin A4.

You didn't need to cut the DIN plug off. The Vizualogic part #90-6011 is a cable extention that converts the DIN plug to a RCA video connector with power wires for the camera. With that being said, I don't think this will help you now. I haven't cut one of the camera cables, so I'm not sure what the color of the wires may be. I would assume there would be four wires in that cable; video conductor, video shield, power, and grd. I would look for common colors; red=power, blk=grd, yellow=video. Good luck.

Place a diode on the car's side of the reverse wire that's going to the avic before the splice where the switch lead ties in. This will prevent feedback to the car while allowing you to have full screen reverse image at the flip of a switch. See below:

Look on ebay. I just bought 94 videos on 2 DVD's for $25 shipped. None of which have the TV channel logo on them.

CAN I USE External DVD Player, Until Hack is Resolved?
shotgun_customs replied to laidbackc's topic in Hacks/Mods
Audio from the DVD will play while in motion, only the video displayed on the Z2 stops. You could loop the rear video output to the reverse cam input and place a switch on the reverse trigger wire. The reverse wire can be connected to either ground or 12v, you'll have to select the proper polarity for the camera trigger input though the set-up menu. This will work, but you will have the "reversed image" warning over the movie. -
Question about Bluetooth Update and the 07/06 Bypass
shotgun_customs replied to Jeagle82's topic in Hacks/Mods
Don't worry. The by-pass will work. Just move the mute wire and ground both that wire and the parking brake wire. -
If the AVIC's light green wire is connected to the parking brake and ground at the same time, the truck will think the parking brake is set and will produce the chime. Make sure you disconnected the AVIC's parking brake wire from the trucks parking brake and connect it directly to gound. You will also need to reset the AVIC to get rid of the parking brake improperly connected warning.

I'm in need of the CNDV-21 update disc for the AVIC-90DVD. Does anyone have one or know where it can be bought? I was told it was no longer avalible through Pioneer.

I would try some different mic placements. Also I found that if you changed the phone/guidance speaker settings to left side only verses both sides the the echo can be decreased. This has seemed to work on most of our installs before and after the bluetooth update.

This is a common problem with Trailblazers and Envoy's. The techs at PAC were aware of this problem, but it took three calls before they would own up to it. I've tried just splicing( w/ brown loop cut) and cutting the steering wheel wire loose from the BCM and connecting it straight to the PAC piece( w/ brown loop un-cut). The later worked best for me, but it still has the same problem, just not as offen. When the wire is cut you will loose the control of on-star from the steering wheel. On the plus side, you can use that button to control one more feature on the radio.
-
It's not a really a lag. The PESWIPS takes a sample of the data traveling on the steering wheel control wire. You must hold the button longer than the sampling rate. This info came directly from an engineer that was envolved in the design of this piece.

I've encountered this a few times. Of coarse I tried swapping interfaces first, but this didn't fix the problem. The best solution I found was putting a good quality power noise filter on the consant power wire between the vehicle's radio plug and the interface. This removes most of the whine.

2006 Hummer H2 Install Dash/Trim Ring?!?!?
shotgun_customs replied to mattroberts123's topic in Problems/Troubleshooting
I ran into the same problem w/ the metra kit. The opening is to small for the Z1. In the last three H2's I've had to cut out the opening in the kit. The best way I found to do this was to score the back of the kit w/ a razer knife and bend the kit on that line to break off the edge. The edge will not be very smooth, but you can place the thin trim ring that comes w/ the Z1 over the kit. Place a dab of glue on the kit, then place the trim ring around the radio making sure to center it. Putting the radio bezel back on will hold the trim ring in place until the glue dries. Work like a charm and l
