  1. The Bose speakers used in the GM truck/SUV systems are 4 ohm and the amp can be by-passed to connect the speakers directly to the radio. Bose speakers are typically lower in impedence, Nissan Bose, but not on the GM. If you use the GMOS-04 it won't matter.

  3. They should be able to. But can they is a different story. I'm sure most Best Buy's and Circuit City's have good installers. You just don't know what days they work or if they're the ones to work on your vehicle.
  4. I put the ant under the dash and reception is perfect. There is a panel that butts up to the windshield that you can remove to install the ant. You may need to fabricate a bracket to stick the ant to. Metra nor Best Kits makes a double din kit for that car. I would start looking for a kit first if you're not willing or able to fabricate a kit yourself. If you split the ant going to the on-star then you're also splitting the signal strength in half.   5. I just recently installed a Z3 on a 2008 Grand Prix. 1. You will need to use the AVIC's GPS ant. The on-star ant will need to be stay connected to the on-star for it to continue working. 2. You should be able to use the factory XM ant. You will need to shave the alignment tabs off of the Pioneer XM tuner ant connector. The factory XM tuner should be behind the glove box and will need to be removed and replaced with the pioneer. 3.   6. Yes, you can cut the metal bracket out. We do on every install. A D3 will not fit in the center concole w/ the DVD player under it.
  7. The one thing I don't like about the HD tuner is the interface. It is accessed as an ext source and there is just one line of text across the top of the screen that shows the radio channel and name. It will pick up HD and analog stations. You can just unplug the ant from the radio and plug it into the HD tuner but then you will not have reception with the AVIC's internal analog tuner. I recomend using an ant spliter and connect the ant to both the HD tuner and the AVIC.
  8. The factory amp is under the center console bucket. You can access the plugs by removing the back of the console. The amp has inputs from the radio and the outputs are the standard GM colors; blue/lt blue, green/lt green, gray/tan, yellow/brown. Use a test tone generator to varify. Tan, lt green, brown, and dark blue are your positives. You can cut these wires loose from the amp and connect them to the speaker outputs of the avic. You will no longer have audio from on-star. I would cut the speaker wires at least 2" from the plugs on the amp so they can be reconnected if needed. You can also c
  9. You will loose use of the ash tray. But I've been able to lift the power outlet door and sneak my cell charger in. Neither was a deal breaker for me. I'm getting ready to start building a custom console, so both of those will come out anyway. Plus, I wanted a carbon fiber dash kit to match my wheel, pass side grab handle, and pass side air vents.
  10. It sounds like both of you have connected the high voltage speaker outputs to the 350's speaker inputs. You are amplifing an amplified signal. That's why your getting loud volume before the AVIC's volume is maxed out. Try connecting the RCA outputs of the AVIC to the speaker inputs of the 350.
  11. I converted my 01 Tahoe to a double din. First you'll want to remove the plastic sub dash that holds the radio and A/C controls. Cut out the back of it out so you have just the two sides. Mount the A/C controls 9/16" lower and make some sheet metal L-brakets for your radio. Buy the 03-06 dash bezel, it will snap right in place and looks nicer than modifing your old one. I used a BKGMK422 kit to fill in the space around the radio and the dash. The most time consuming part was mounting the radio.   12. The controller is looking for a 12v signal that drops to grd when the pedal is pressed. I could install a switch that is engaged when the brake is applied. This switch would trigger a relay. The "normally closed" connection, 87a-30, would be 12v and the "normally open" connection, 87-30, would be to grd. The down side to this would be an audible click when the relay engages, every press of the brake. I could also run a wire from the taillamp, but would probably need to convert that signal w/ a relay as well. But this would be in the rear behind panels and may not be as noticeable. I'm sure
  13. The SRX uses a 5V reference signal for the brake switch. A switch can be installed to trigger a relay that would inturn provide the brake signal needed for the brake controler. I'm sure I could get your SRX ready for towing if you would like to make a trip to Raleigh/Cary. The Escalade's are much easier b/c they are prewire for the brake controller. The 06's and older come w/ a harness that wires to the controller and then plugs into the convenience center. The 07's and newer have all the wires taped to a harness behind the knee bolster.   14. You're loosing the constant power(yellow wire) or ground(black wire) when you turn off the car. Use a multimeter to test these two while cycling the ignition.
  15. There are lots of great sounding amps that would bring out the full potinal of the Focal's. I perfer Zapco. High S/N ratio and slew rate, plus great crossovers. JL Audio's slash series are nice also. Look for an amp with at least 50-100 watts w/ a high S/N ratio(>100dB) and slew rate(>25 V/uS). I run the Zapco 4.0 on my A/D/S/ 346's, 100 watts a channel, >100dB, >40V/uS, >1000 damping factor.   16. You'll be providing a 1/4 of the power that Focal recommends for those seps. Your system will only be as strong as it's weakest link. In this case, it will be your amp or lack of. You'll be fine at lower volume, but expect lots of distortion at higher levels. I wouldn't want laziness to be the cause of your newly acquired paper weights.
  17. It's the same part. I use the Peripheral PESWIPS. Works w/ 03-08 GM trucks and SUV's. It will need to be reprogramed, but a "competent" tech should be able to handle it. BTW.   21. You will not get that warning if you perform the by-pass correctly and don't turn on the radio until both wires are connected. If you do get the warning then, 1. the by-pass is not correctly done or 2. the unit was turned on before the by-pass was done and the Z2 needs to be reset.
  22. XM never had a cance to turn off the tuner if the old owner disconnected the unit before they canceled/transfered service. Mine lasted about two weeks before it turned off. Maybe you'll be lucky and keep free service.
  23. 1. The VSS is not required, but it can help the unit w/ accuracy. 2. Yes the splash screen can be changed. Look at the threads on creating backgrounds for help. 3. If the Z2 was made in Aug 07 or newer then all you need to do is move a wire to the "secret" location. Then ground that wire and the parking brake wire.
