  1. The thread you need is located in D- series Hack/Mos, and is the second sticky down. I tried to list the link, but I guess it is too early in the morning, and I cannot seem to get it to work.
  2. Don't worry. I have a question posed om ModdedMustangs already. I just like to use all the resorces available to me, this wonderful forum being one of them.
  3. OK. The boss was really nice to me this year, and bought (for me to play with and build) a 2008 Mustang Shelby GT500. I'm in the process of peicing this thing together (between regular installs) and have the Z2 in the dash. Problem is, I cannot seem to find the VSS anywhere. I have been at the Ford dealer pouring over schematics, and the only place I can seem to find anything close is from the wheel sensors going to the ABS system. 1- Has anyone done a Nav install in one of these cars? Please don't say "It's just like the GT and its bla bla in this connector" because all os the GT wi
  4. The D3 has 3 sensors to tell where you are and how fast you are going. GPS, VSS and a gyro sensr inside the unit. The gyro will learn it's thing as you drive all by itself, and the GPS is fairly automatic. If it uses just these two, it will work. But in order for it to be as accurate as it can be, the VSS needs to be connected. In some vehicles, there is no VSS wire that the D3 can read, because it is digital. In these few cases, the VSS can be left off. But if your car has one that is easy enough to connect, then do so and you will not be disappointed.
  5. Mine's been bypassed since before it was even powered up for the first time, and I have never seen smoke, and it works every morning, and greets me every evening. If they won't bypass it, find a shop that will, or have them do the initial install and use some help here and bypass it yourself.
  6. What's really sad is if he used a wiring harness adaptor (I don't know why we wouldn't want to) the correct wire is provided for him. $1000 worth of damage by hooking up a dimmer lead wire?! I doubt it. At most I would think it would burn up the dimmer pot in the headlight switch. 50 bucks for the witch and 80 in labor to fix, tops. If he grounded it out. For a long time. And smoked the wire first. If it were me, I would insist he install it correctly, or have his Manager refund your labor money. You paid for a correct install, and should correct it. No questions asked.
  7. Funny, last catalog I saw (yesterday) showed the Z3 as the only upgrade this rear in nav. Again, D3 does not look like it will be replaced until around Christmas or even after CES 2009. And the website showed the same thing. Yes, the D3X is a bargain, and rebate was done to help sales during Tax Refund Season. It's helped at my shop. We cannot keep them in stock, as we are up to around 10 a week.
  8. How about cropping this for a D3? EDIT- Thanks for the cropping. I deleted image because it was so big.
  9. Sounds to me like you don't have the correct wire. Try this. Try removing the VSS wire from the nav unit completely for a few days and see if it clears it up. Don't worry, the GPS and gyro sensors will work it. If it clears up, I would look for another wire to be your VSS.
  10. Read the thread a little closer. First, depends on the date of manufacture. Alot of the newer units do not need the CD-ROM update to bypass. Second, if you used Windows to burn the image, DON'T! Use Nero or some other burning program.
  11. Explorer is soooooooo easy. Carefully pop off the dash, unclip the wiring harnesses, and set aside. Then remove 2 7mm bolts at the bottom of the radio, and remove. Then there is the popular "Installation is the reverse of the procedure."
  12. Fear not. D3 is NOT being discontinued. When it entered the market a little over a year ago, it was the best value nav unit on the market. Look what came down the line this year to compete- An Eclipse that has a remvable tom tom? Ugly, small screen, lack of features, shall I go on? A Kenwood that looks really close to the D3 with Navtech built in. Upgradeable? Burn it to CD-ROM and MAYBE it will work. And iPod is not as nice, imho. Alpine? Overpriced. Panasonic? Lacks alot of really desirable features. When Pioneer lowered the price/gave a rebate (depending on retailer/box store)
  13. I know I could. Remember that no matter how committed you are to your car (I'm practically married to mine) that it is still just a collection of parts made of metal, plastic, glass, wire, etc. You can use a dremmel and cut out the plastic backing, just don't cut any wires. If you are at all nervous, I would recomend going to a pro and let him do it. 1/2" is really nothing.
  14. D4 is coming soon? According to what source? The only thing new coming out in the next 6-8 months is the Z3, and it's not due for 2 more months.
  15. Didn't know there were any TRUE sports cars equipt with a slush-box. And I thought paddles were for rowing your boat?!
  16. Never worked on one with a factory a/v system. And none of my searches resulted in any info for it. Sorry.
  17. If your dash is double din, then go for the D3. Newer map data, better XM display (when connected) and awesome iPod control/display (again, when connected). If it is NOT double din, N3 is OK, but N4 is just a D3 that folds in the dash. If you need a fold in/out unit and are gettting a heck of a deal, do the N3. Want all the coolness of a D3 with a fold out, do the N4.
  18. You could if you could find an old pioneer ip-bus interface box. They haven't been made in a few years, so i doubt it. If you did, the functions would be limited, and the display would not have the logos on it. My advice would be to buy the pioneer XM tuner- GEX-P910XM- and transfer your service. You will be glad you did.
  19. Done several installs with the peripheral module, and the parking light connection usually does not work (problem with the software in module) so you will need to connect the orange/white of the D3 harness to the brown/white wire at the headlight switch.
  20. Check the spelling on the street you want. Last week I needed to so a service call at a customer's house on callaway st, but I kept typing in calloway (the normal spelling). It's a long shot, but it may help.
  21. I doubt the unit is factory, most OEMs use units built by Panasonic (GM) or don't say anything at all. But it would help if we knew what kind of vehicle...
  22. Wouldn't mind a resize of this to fit the D3 correctly. Currently it gets cut off just below the number. Had a guy at work make it for me in photoshop and then, well, departed.
