  1. Directly? I don't think it can be done. I run a Nexus 7 with a USB DAC plugged into the Z150's aux input and use Poweramp as the media player. With that combination, I can play just about any music file. The downside is that I can't control the Nexus through the steering wheel controls. The upside is that I have current nav data with far superior nav program options.
  2. I don't think so. The Z150 has different hardware.
  3. Is there a setting in the backup camera area for polarity? Try the other setting.
  4. The new Nexus is about $200 and will do just about anything an iPad will do. Just sayin'.
  5. I use the Z150 for its radio and amplifier. I use the Nexus for its music player and nav. I can now hook up a SSD drive and a USB DAC and play my music files in the .flac format I have most of them saved as, with no file size or number limitations like I do with the Z150. If I had considered using a tablet in a car, I would have never bought the Z150. I had an AVIC P2400 before, which would have been the amp, radios, Bluetooth phone, and backup camera I'm using the Z150 for now, and I could have saved $800. My tablet setup, including the Nexus, is less than $300 and I will never have to p
  6. I think he's going to need the Pioneer cable. The USB port on the back of the Z150 is for charging only and does not pass data.
  7. Depending on how wonky you are, a much better approach might be to work with a new Nexus 7. You'll have a far superior screen and a wider range of choices for navigation and audio playback
  8. When you've spent a grand or better to install a head unit, it's not unreasonable to expect it to work out of the gate as advertised. It's not unreasonable to expect a feature they've promoted for several years (AppRadio) to actually work. I believe that if I were Pioneer, I'd be embarrassed that with half the investment, one could take a new Nexus 7 and beat even the NEX's feature set.
  9. I wish someone would report how, and how well Mirrorlink works. I have a compatible phone, and if its a viable alternative to Appmode, it just might swing me to bite.
  10. Note that the "S" in MSRP means "suggested." Unless Pioneer has an agreement with their resellers to the contrary, they're free to sell the product for whatever price they can find agreeable buyers and provides a satisfactory profit.
  11. Given the propensity for victims to go after the deepest pockets available, it seems Pioneer has all of the legal protection of a fig leaf. They'd have to demonstrate why service centers and techs would need to bypass a safety feature in order to troubleshoot.
  12. Yes. Ground the parking brake lead from the head unit. If you were to hook up the parking brake lead as instructed by Pioneer, it would be grounded whenever you engage the parking brake. One wonders why Pioneer goes through the exercise of requiring it if they provide a software bypass.
  13. My apologies. I saw a wiring diagram with the 4000NEX and erroneously assumed that Pioneer had put the install instructions back into the owners manual
  14. Go to Pioneer's website. They put the installation information back into the owners manual, which is available online there.
  15. It seems to be Pioneer's policy that once new units are released, they forget they made the older units.
  16. They weren't able to do much with the Z150. Just sayin'. I've seen in it smartphones. Programmers are taking it as a challenge to make their software as hard to hack as possible.
  17. How will you interface with your car? Most all cars from about 2003 on run things like the chimes through the head unit. If that's not important to you, or if you're already planning to run wire to your speakers, don't worry about this, but it does make tapping into the system for power - especially retained accessory power - speed sensor and illumination much easier. Do you have steering wheel controls? There's an interface for that. I installed one of these near where I have my phone mounted. It keeps the charging ports free for other devices. It also helps to keep the cables a bit
  18. If it does, it's be a new feature. I'm inclined to doubt it.
  19. All of that is true. What is also true is that there aren't many forums where end product users can post their likes, dislikes, workarounds and ideas, particularly for fairly niche products such as higher end car audio equipment. You'd think that in an era of survey driven customer satisfaction, a forum such as this would be a gold mine for a company such as Pioneer. I wouldn't think they'd need to take it to the level of Cadillac, who seemingly have customer service representatives actively monitoring the forum and stand ready to assist with just about any issue, but I think Pioneer i
  20. Does the new Pioneer units read .flac files? If it does, it'd be a first.
  21. If it works like the Z150, any HDMI to 11 pin MHL adapter will work.
  22. Is there a CAN bus adapter for the Mercedes like there is for GM cars? iDatalink, perhaps? It'll give you all of the outputs you need...parking brake, reverse, speed pulse and instrument lighting without having to hack into wiring. The parking brake does not go to 12 volts hot. It would go to ground. There's something else that needs to be done to bypass it, regardless, that lead would be grounded.
  23. Try unpairing both the phone and the head unit and give it another whirl.
