fatherfork
You are my hero. I'll try it out tonight.
1fastrsx
Yep, that one I can at least understand.. will go for a drive later to further test. Thanks
Yettavr6
I don't know if you got around to testing yet, but i did notice saturday night that although i was getting fewer prompts up to my turn, i would ofter get the final "take the next left/right" prompt twice in a row. I think i have now fixed that, and as we speak I am working on replacing Samantha completely. I was informed by a member on a GPS forum that Samantha ignores the rules.ini file, which is why she does not say highway numbers correctly. I am working on replacing her with Jill who supposedly complies with the rules I'm going out to test right now... P.S. if this works it will free up about 140MB on the internal storage. skicrave
Awesome! Please keep us posted on your progress. I spent a few days working on replacing Jill, but couldn't make sense of Pioneer's file structure and how TTS voices were treated.
Yettavr6
Yea, the file structure seems to be hard coded in. When i replaced Samantha 11khz with Samantha 22khz i had to rename the new files to the same as the old, otherwise it just wouldn't work. Even though it would appear to import fine, it would keep playing Jason. I'm trying the same thing now with Jill, so even if it does work, its still going to be called Samantha. I also noticed that alot of the Nuance TTS files are duplicated in the VBT (voicebox technology) folder, but they don't seem to be needed, since the VR was using Samantha 22khz without me touching any files in that directory. There is also a ton of other voices in the igo\scansoft\realspeak directory which i'm attempting to delete since we can't choose them anyway, and they appear to be for other languages. That's how this would free up about 140MB (fingers crossed)
skicrave
Great job, this could easily be one of the most important and practical modifications for the F-Series. Keep us posted on your progress, and let me know if you need any help.
fatherfork
I tested your latest Samantha and it works great! The amount she talks was really the last major gripe about the unit, so thank you very much! Also, I haven't heard her say the last prompt twice in a row yet. How does Jill sound different than Samantha? Is she "better looking"?
skicrave
Jill sounds much more natural than Samantha. I'll try to dig up the demo link that allows you to enter text and listen to various voices pronounce them. Also, here is a link to a couple of other US English TTS voices that may be worth modding for the F-Series.
kudron
Jennifer sounds "hotter".
Lord Aries
How about Jenna Jameson! hehe
skicrave
I added this to the In Progress Mods in the FAQ.
WeApOn
Is this just for European units? To my knowledge, US can only use Jason as a guide. Am I wrong?
BorisM
Samantha is a US voice...
skicrave
Yep, you're wrong. The stock options for voice guidance in the US are Jason for none TTS and Samantha for TTS. Samantha sounds horrible, but if you don't use her, then you lose TTS.
blackbimmer
I'm sorry guys, but all of these voices sound horrible!!! Why can't they use real sounding voices like the factory NAV units have?? I just don't get it...The BMW I drove with factory NAV in europe sounded just like a real woman sitting next to me talking...
