skicrave Posted November 5, 2008 Report Share Posted November 5, 2008 I'm not sure the quality of Mac's TTS is a direct result of their hardware though, I think it may just be that they are the first ones to put in the energy to perfect it. She sounds so horrible that i think there is almost no repair for her, unless you guys can make her sound sexy for those long and lonely road trips. Does any 1s know how too make this unit tell u the street when you adding the address or get to your location like the Garmin? thats the problem, the guy will NEVER announce street names because his speech is not Text-To-Speech. meaning that there is a reason why his voice sounds a lot more smooth and natural, because they recorded his voice in whole phrases "turn at the next right", "turn in 1 mile". I've given up on trying new Nuance voices because it seems the engine itself just sucks. It sounds crappy no matter which voice you use, and refuses to pronounce highway number correctly, which was my biggest complaint. I'm trying to get the Loquendo engine working, which seems to be what the majority of the iGo community uses, but so far I havent been able to make it work. I'm also hoping we can get iGo 8.3 running on the F as that may make it easier for me to get Loquendo working. If it's more than that, she'll say "prepare to turn right in 1000ft onto Jefferson Ln" But, if the next turn is within 400-500ft, all she says is "take the next right" Can I have her say the street name instead? phantomftr Posted March 9, 2009 Report Share Posted March 9, 2009 I don't know if you got around to testing yet, but i did notice saturday night that although i was getting fewer prompts up to my turn, i would ofter get the final "take the next left/right" prompt twice in a row. CitizenX Posted March 23, 2009 Report Share Posted March 23, 2009 The male voice is not standard - sounds like yours got switched somehow, probably when being updated. Go to System Settings, then Language, to change your voice. The standard option is English (Samantha) with TTS. Quite honestly though, I keep it on the guy's voice for two reasons: it's recorded, so sounds better; and because he doesn't say any street names, he shuts up faster!
