Della
You should connect the parking brake wire as described in the install manual & use the software bypass. If you ground the parking brake wire (or simply ignore it) you'll get occasional nag screens from the unit. I know this from first hand experience, had mine rewired correctly (install shop wasn't happy cause it was more effort ) & no more nag screens.
knoxville555
Does the nag screen go away if u push "ok". If so I can deal with that here and there.

darkside59
Confirmed this work. Just a question. Do I need to have the parking break on to update Navi? I can't seem to update my map on my NEX8000
dyauch
I have an AVIC-6100NEX installed myself, grounded parking brake wire. Once past setup, tried to initiate bypass via AV mode off, go to bottom left quadrant per directions. I repeated and repeated, moving slightly. Message never came up. Firmware was 1.01. I flashed/updated Firmware to 1.03 & updated maps. Repeated attempt to bypass. Will not happen. I disconnected parking brake grounding. Still does not bypass. Has the X100NEX update disabled this bypass? I simply cannot get it to work. I am sure I'm in correct screen, lower left quadrant, 1/2 inch in & up. dyauch@aol.com

hmmwv
Anyone who has done this bypass have successfully updated to firmware 1.11 yet? Really don't want to risk bricking my unit.
VBLUE42
You won't brick your unit. The worst that will happen is it will disable the bypass.
Abbott413
Anyone who has done this bypass have successfully updated to firmware 1.11 yet? Really don't want to risk bricking my unit. Confirmed working with 1.11 on a 5000-nex. CarPlay crashes all the time but that is another story...
hmmwv
Thanks for the reply, I did my update on the 5000NEX and everything went well.
Heretic
Can anyone please verify if the software bypass still works after upgrading 6100NEX to firmware 1.05? I want to update, but don't want to lose the bypass ability. Thank you.
fwelland
Another confirmation of 8100nex working. HU bought late Dec 2015. Self installed. Followed proper install procedures for parking brake. Used Hu for a while in normal conditions and noticed I couldn't do bunches of stuff while moving (w parking break off...). Deployed firmware 1.05 on 1/18/2006, everything went smoothly. Applied the bypass 'tweak', works. Can monkey around with any/all settings while parking brake off. Heretic
I completed the firmware update from 1.01 to 1.05 on my 6100NEX. It is confirmed that my bypass is still working. The only settings that I notice were reset to default are the ones in the GPS app.
Bear Down
Confirmed this works on the 5100NEX on firmware 1.05. It took a few tries but I got it. I do have the parking brake wire correctly connected to my parking brake. I had to apply the parking brake to do this bypass.
nels50
Just purchased the 6200nex and my installer couldn't figure out how to do the bypass on this newest unit. I guess the secret button is no longer there. Anyone have any experience with this yet?
