datahex10000
This really blows. I thought something was wrong with my Ipod adapter or Z1 until I read this thread. I can't believe Apple released a new product that is this buggy. My $375 160 GB classic goes back to the store in the morning. I guess I should have bought the 80 GB 5.5 gen they had on clearance. Doh!!
kotoma
Just return the new ipod. Unfortunatly, the old 80G is gone so I have to get the 30G. I think the problems with new generation make Apple happy since a lot of D3 owners like me rush to buy the old generation. This is the chance for Apple to clear out not just the leftover but the refurbished ones.

skippy911
You can always call apple and tell them you want the 80 gig and they will recall the pkg. I did Wish I could have gotten 80 gig black though
kruff10
Are the 5.5 30 and 80 gig ipods huge or are they a decent size?
HiFiSi
They're the same size as the new ones.
kotoma
They're the same size as the new ones. Not quite. According to the press release new ones are thinner (but heavier) 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.41 @ 4.9 ounces (new 80G) 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.43 @ 4.8 ounces (old 30G) 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.53 @ 5.7 ounces (new 160G) 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.55 @ 5.5 ounces (old 80G)
HiFiSi
Well... one tenth of an inch thicker with the same height and width. That's close enough for me to call it the same. And the weight increase is from increasing the hard drive size, I'd guess. Which really is not much different, just one or two tenths of an ounce.
kotoma
and that is the reason why I said "not quite" instead of "wrong" Actually, a decrease of 0.02 for a thickness of 0.43 is significant (4.6%) If it is 100 then 0.02 is insignificant.
