So I want to hook my phone (blackberry storm) to my F700 to use Pandora. I have my iPod in the glove box so AV1 is being used for that. I stupidly assumed that like most head units, the Avic's front 3.5mm jack would work for audio input. Is there a way to just connect a line-in (3.5mm -> 3.5mm) stereo cable from the phone to the head unit and get audio. I'm getting the impression this may not be as easy as it should be. Thanks

With the stylus, tap and hold on the top bar of the window and drag it to the middle of the screen. Then you should be able to hit the "X". Good luck

I've read a couple of suggestions online as I have an LCD TV with a small gouge. #1 use a brand new, clean pencil eraser and rub the scratch lightly #2 Fill the scratch with vaseline and it will make the scratch nearly invisible I haven't tried either of these methods so they are at your own risk, but are cheap and probably worth a try.

The easiest thing to do likely is to tap into a tail light wire. Headlights are tricky as DRL's screw things up, but your tail lights are only on when you turn on your headlight switch, or in a Caddy if your lights come on automatically. So I would try to find one of the tail light wires. You are essentially looking for any wire that has current flowing through it when you want the screen dimmed.

You're probably going to need a PAC-SWI-PS and a programmer, don't remember the model. That adapts the CAN-BUS and programs the correct functions. They are made by a company called Peripheral electronics or something like that. Check Crutchfield and http://peripheralelectronics.com/ Hope it helps

I like my F700 even with the start up time. I've gotten into the habit of switching to FM when I park as that kicks in sooner the the iPod, then I just switch over to that no big deal. The biggest problem I have with the startup is if I want to put in a destination right away as that can take about a minute or so before it is fully functional. But all in all, I don't mind it enough to not recommend the F series to you.

I believe the conclusion was made that the 700 has MSN direct files and apps for the sake of uniform programming and ease of programming however it likely does not have the hardware to support MSN direct. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that even if you got it working you would never get a signal.

I renamed mine with a .old extension after the .wav extension (effectively deleting them as far as the system is concerned) and its working fine. I haven't noticed much of an increase in speed over blank files, but never had much lag with those to begin with.

I don't have an element but I put my antenna under the dash on top of a metal cross member. This works really well, but my windshield has a lot more slope than that of an element, the dash may be a bit restrictive but give it a try. I have my mic on my steering column right now but my gf said she has trouble hearing me. Moving the mic closer helped so I think I'm going to try to find a better place for it.

The software bypass also allows for the possibility of having it fixed more readily in a firmware update in the future.

OK, so this was useless for you as it has nothing to do with that, but don't mind him too much. There is a setting in the Nav settings. Menu Settings Nav. Settings Warnings (or something to that effect) Then you can turn it off all together or adjust the % at which it warns you.

My biggest problem with it is trying to push it straight in for VR. Half the time I end up switching songs.

That might work, but from the sound of it the newest/easiest way is just to back up the files and delete them.

Those slider are for the nav voice volume, which CAN be speed dependant (and works very well). What Giessen is looking for is speed dependant AUDIO. Wish I could offer a solution, but I'm sure our resident hacking crew will figure it out eventually!... -Eric Ok, wasn't sure which that was for.

I found a setting for this. It was really buried but I'm pretty sure it was in there. There were 2 sliders, one for minimum speed and one for maximum. I'll check it out next time I get a chance.

FWIW, the 700 doesn't have a VSS wire.

Damn, I just put together my harness last night and I'm going to install this tomorrow. This would have been so much easier, but oh well, I've got it all set up for the hardware bypass so I might as well. Nice find though, loving the way the hacking community is growing up around this unit and can't wait to actually install and use it.

That's what I wasn't sure of. Can anyone else confirm this, and I'm not sure how terribly important that is.

I'm installing my F700 tomorrow and just wanted to know if the reverse wire is necessary or not. I'm not hooking up a reverse camera and if I do down the road I can always connect it in then. The biggest question I have is whether the reverse wire has anything to do with navigation or if it only is used to turn on the rearview camera. Thanks.
