  1. Check your mic and make sure its not in the SP/DIFF port. I accidentally did this on mine and got the nosie you describe. Once moved to the Mic port, all will be fine. Greg
  2. The links to the pics are broken, its an old post. I completed the disassembly, repair, and reassembly without the pictures. If you follow the written instructions in this thread, and you have some dexterity/patience, you can do it too. It's not as hard as you may think. Just make certain you know what screws go where (write it down if you have to). There are a bunch of different sizes to deal with. Good luck... Greg
  3. Yep - this happened to me as well. I had plugged the mic into the SPDIF port. They are very close together and easily mistaken. This will solve your issue. Greg
  4. I hope someone posts an image of their drive running this new version I am badly in need of some new maps. My neighborhood isnt even on mine (Z1 with Z3 HDD) Here's to hoping! Greg
  5. Just wanted to post an update. I ordered a new rack from Pioneer and was able to replace it myself using the instructions above (without pics) to do the job. If you follow the instructions above, and have a some what logical brain, you can do this. The only step that wasnt mentioned above that I had to do to remove the broken rack was to remove the motor/gear assembly. Once you get to the bottom layer, you will see two silver screws holding the motor/gear assembly down. Simply remove those two screws and the gear/motor assembly will simply lift up enough to remove the broken rack.
  6. Damn. This just happened to me last week. My unit will open without issue, but when you go to put it back to normal, it gets hung and self-opens again, I assume as a saftey to not break it, like a garage door. If I "help" it when its closing it will cloe all the way. I had the screen all the way down, and I can see the "rack" isnt where its supposed to be. I would love to take this thing apart and fix it, but all the pics on this thread are gone Does anyone else have any pics of this process? Much appreciated, Greg
  7. If you use a non-Toshiba Hard Drive, your unit will re-boot every 15 minutes or so. There is an internal check that goes on to verify the type of drive. You can only use the drives mentioned on this forum as upgrades. Your best bet is to get a pre-configured drive from garretttoomey.
  8. Took me 30 seconds using the instructions on this site. Pretty lame if you cant just look at the pictures and do it. A video would be overkill.
  9. Watching CNN right now and they just said CC is liquidating all of their stores starting now. Feel sorry for people that bought extended warranties from them
  10. I have a 2009 Toyota Tacoma X-Runner. The suspension is very stiff and it hasnt been a problem with my Z1. I notice sometimes in the hardware menu it will say "excessive vibration", but it hasnt been a problem.
  11. I think mine resumes back to where it was.

    z3 vs n5???

I would take the Z3 over the N5. Mostly because the nav data is on the hard drive instead of a DVD. Its faster, and you dont have to worry about those nav DVDs evr again. Also, its pretty easy to upgrade the Z Series when new software comes out. Lastly, I beleive you will like the large, sturdy screen on the Z Series. If you dont mind them doing custom things to your dash, I think the Z is the way to go.
  13. I dont know about buffing scratches out. The part that is scratched is a pretty thin plastic film. I think you can buy a new screen from Pioneer for less than $100. I think someone has posted a link on here before about it.
  14. Thanks DJ... I added the volume to my shortcut menu and that is a lot easier to deal with. Still wish you could use the volume buttons! Greg
  15. Probably not the BT unit. Mine looks pretty old, I got it off eBay. I am using a Z1 that I upgraded myself to Z3. It took me a few tries to get the phone book over because it kept disconnecting. I just kept trying and it finally worked after 3-4 tries.
  16. I just got my BT adapter and paired my Bold with no problems. Address Book and Phone calls work fine.
  17. - Carrier: AT&T - BlackBerry 9000 (Bold) - Calling: Fully Functional - Address Book: Yes, all at once
  18. Hey guys, I just installed the Bluetooth adapter on my Z3. Its working fine and all that. I am wondering if there is a way to raise/lower the volume of the caller while on a call without having to go to the Nav Menu/Settings/Volume area. I was only able to test for a minute last night and I tried hitting the volume up/down buttons and it didnt seem to do anything. Should the physical volume buttons control the Phone Call Audio? Any help is appreciated. Greg
  19. Your system is running the Z3 software. The version 3.0000 indicates that. You are not running the latest Gracenotes database though. There is newer one. I beleive its version 08-01-0030. Mine is running the same after a self-upgrade of my Z1 to Z3. I think Pioneer has the update that is downloadable on their website. You burn it to a CD and put it in and it will update for you. I have not tried it yet, but I think thats the deal. The biggest gain I saw from the Z1 to Z3 was the newer, more accurate maps in my area. Also appears to have more/accurate POIs. Other than that, t
  20. FYI - Anyone with a 2009 Tacoma, you should tap the Purple/White in the only Black Plug on the front of the fuse box on the driver's side. This is the only wire that would produce a VSS signal. Thanks to a guy on the12volt.com for the info.
  21. Bootz man, I just re-tapped it and it still isnt working. I notice in the pictures on this and other forums of the ECU, the plug that supposedly has the VSS wire is White, but mine is Black. Im wondering if they made some wiring changes for the 2009 models. I also saw in a forum on the12volt.com that if the factory radio has Speed Compensated Volume (Which Tacomas do) that the speed pulse wire should be up in the factory radio harness as well. Not sure if thats true, but it seems logical. I havent heard of anyone that has posted about doing a Navi setup in a 2009.
  22. Hey guys, Just installed a Z1 in my 2009 Tacoma. I found the Violet/White wire at my ECU and tapped it, however, Im not sure its working. When I go into "Menu > Settings > Hardware > Connection Status" and drive around, the Speed Pulse Value always stays a Zero. However, in the 3D Calibration Screen, the "Speed Pulses" value does increment by 1 every once in awhile (about once every mile or so). Is the Speed Pulse Value supposed to go up and down as you drive in the Connection Status screen? I would think it should. If so, please let me know so I can go check the tap
  23. I have never seen so much carbon fiber in all my life! I will be ordering my drive shortly!
  24. Great, thanks for the quick reply. I thought the guy above said there wasnt a purple/white wire there. Looking forward to my install! Thanks Greg
