1. After 18 mos of no BT (Treo 700W) my system is complete. I've spent about an hour on on the phone through the Z1 and no issues, & noone could tell that I wasn't using the phone directly. I can't figure out how to transfer the contacts list either, but that's a pretty minor problem in my eyes, since I've never even had BT before, dispite my having all the req'd equipment. If anyone has questions, lemmie know!
2. entail? Is it a fix that will allow smartphones (700W) to pair with it, or is it only an echo fix? I'm sure it's been addressed 100 times in the last 2 months but when I searched "bluetooth fix & bluetooth update" came up with 568 irrevelent results. Thanks in advance.
3. That's great, Bones. Thanks for giving us some solid information, straight from the source.
4. You mean functions just show up when ever and you don't know what they will be? Or when you put in a destination you can select random and it will route you to some random location... Man, that's funny! I laughed VERY out loud at that. "I want to go to.....ah hell, I dunno where I want to go. You tell me!" [he pushes the Random button]
5. That was my question......anybody know?
6. Thanks for the compliments. I got it here: http://www.audiooutfitter.com/store/310534/999105.html They seem to be out of stock right now, but it's a Metra kit- PN: 99-9105. You can probably find it elsewhere.
7. I haven't worked with the RSX specifically, but my Audi had the bose system in it from the factory. There was NO working with the Bose amp. But if you really want to use the stock sub, check the impedance, most Bose automotive systems are 2 ohm, not 4, and get an external amp that will handle a 2-ohm load, and wire it right into the sub. I've got an old skool Sound Stream amp and I run my stock Bose 2ohm door speaks with it. It should work like a charm.
8. I've had this installed since May, but I never had a face plate that looked decent, since NOBODY made one until recently. A huge thanks to Felix on this forum for letting me know it was available.
9. If you mean sequentially, I don't think so. You can select waypoints each time you punch in a new destination, and as mentioned before, you can store destinations in the address book, & you can use it even if you don't know the address of where you are: you can choose "from map location" and then it marks the spot where you're currently parked.
10. That's because you're utilizing the tiny little, cheap op-amp that's inside the iPOD that is only meant for a set of headphones, not to be rerouted through another amplifer. The cable you're using has a different impedance from your headphones, so you've got to crank it, to hear anything. This goes for any device that is intended to be heard through headphones. While that's an easy solution, it's not much of one for the audiophile. You'll need to use the data port on the bottom for a clean audio out.
11. Having not played with the Eclipse unit, although I've always been a big Eclipse fan, I'm very happy with the Nav portion of the Z1. As far as the audio side of it, I'm having a really hard time with the kinda cheesy EQ pioneer gives us to tweak it. After 6 months, and very high quality components, I still can't get it to sound quite "right".
12. What is the model # you got for the interface? I'm looking at the PIE website & they've got about a million interface cables. Which did you use? Nice find, BTW.....I"ve been looking for one of these.
13. It does look really good, James. In the pix, the CF looked great, but knowing what the rest of the car looks like, it would look out of place, only being in the center radio stack. My kit is ordered, & will be in next week- Can't wait to get the crappy looking piece that's in there now, out. Thanks for the tip, bro. -Matt
14. I installed the Z1 in my Audi w/ Bose. I bypassed the amplifier, since it's got all of the x-overs, etc. in it, but I used the stock mids in the front doors and the stockers in the rear. It works, and if you're using a decent amplifer, sounds decent, since the stock Bose speaks are 2-ohm. You'd be better served though, just upgrading it all. To answer your question, yes, it's doable, but difficult when utilizing the Bose amplifier.
15.
Well, unfortunately law is law and most of us pay for our expensive fast cars to use them at the track. I had a 2004 A4 I purchased in late 03 (one of the first in the area) and I hardly consider that car fast nor expensive. The entire line is extremely heavy and badly in need of a diet, doesn't matter which model, 1.8T - 3.0 - or the S4 in the A4 family. I'd pick a different car and go get that speed fix handled at any one of your many road courses down there in a track day.
While I'll agree that the A4 isn't particularly fast, & all Audi's ARE heavy, I'd
16.
He was riding in the back of an 87 Mustang There were 3 other Boys in the car with him. OHP estimated their speed at 65 they were on an interstate with a 70MPH limit on there way to meet with a Marine Recruiter. The boys were all wearing seat belts but all 4 were still ejected, The car rolled 8 to 10 times. 2 Boys were LifeFlighted with Critical Head and Trunk Injuries 1 had Severe Pelvic Injuries, They will all recover. My son was Killed Instantly and was in such bad shape we were only allowed to see His left hand from the wrist down.( Try to Live with That. ) The 22
17.
....that's what happened to Paris Hilton one time.
Yeah, but she's a whore......so who cares? Sorry- had to say it.
18. I've had ZERO issues with my GPS system. Sure, there are a few newer roads missing from the maps, that's to be expected. I suspect that the NAVTEQ maps are a bit better, but that's fairly minor. I can tell you with certainty, if the cursor moves off the road, or spins & it appears that you're driving backwards, it's because the VSS wire has been disconnected. The gyro thinks it's in full 3D mode, when in actuality, it needs to be in 3D HYBRID mode. Happened to me- easily rectified. The Z1 is a pretty damn good unit, with many cool features, outside of a few Pioneer created annoyances.
19. On many occasions, I've been listening to the iPOD or whatever, and wanted see the song name, artist info etc. Has anyone discovered an easy way to do this without going to the AV screen? I always keep mine on the GPS map and I just want that little info bar to appear across the bottom of the screen, like if you skip up or down a song. Ideas?
20. Awesome. Thanks alot, guys! Good info. BTE, Wilson, that is a really cool presentation of XM's entire plan of execution. I've always been pretty skeptical of sat radio, but I've gotta say, I'm much more impressed w/ XM having read the entire document. I was especially impressed that their XM WX is FAA certified.
21. I had no problem accessing the link on Ducatiboy's page.
22. The HDD is used to download store-bought CDs into the the unit, and for uploading images from a disc created by you, with pictures on it, for personalized background pics. It iPOD unit kinda sucks. It works, and that's great, but it controls the iPOD via the AVIC's touchscreen. Sounds like a cool idea, until you realize that the iPOD unit has NO cache in it, and as you scroll through artists, albums, playlists, etc, it only lists 5 at a time. Each time you hit the scroll button, it has to access the iPOD which takes about 3 seconds. Multiply that by however many artists or albums you have
