  1. You can blend the voice on the D3 as well. I think the option is "mute voice guidance" or something like that. I found it by accident when I thought I was turning it completely off. And the level of muting is adjustable. I have it so it blends in smoothly..almost like she's a DJ mixing routes with beats.
  2. Realizing that soldering is the BEST method for connecting car audio wires... But whats the significant issue with using a wire nut to connect say..3 or more wires together? As long as that particular connection is clean, with the wire nut securely fastened. Whats the issue? I've literally had a wire nut connection for another project I did going on 4 years now, with no problem at all.
  3. No..he meant HIS question was obvious..not yours.
  4. I found a constant hot in my dash, and T-Tapped a single red wire to it. Ran that single wire over to the back of the glovebox, stripped off the end of that wire and the BlueTooth and XM module positive wires, and used an electrical twist cap for all three. Pretty? No. Effective and solid? Yes.
  5. On the back of the D3 is a video RCA Output. You connect that output to a RCA 1 into 2 video splitter found anywhere, including Radio Shack. You now have 2 RCA's coming from the D3. Run those RCA's to your video input RCA's on each headrest, and enjoy the video from the Avic D3
  6. I've backed up in a parking lot with it disconnected, and the gyros/GPS track the car just fine. Not sure why they state inthe manual that it needs to be connected for tracking.
  7. Mine is clipped to the front edge of my headliner and works absolutely perfectly. No one ever even guesses that Im on a speaker phone type setup.
  8. Not needed unless you are using a backup camera.
  9. +1. Who still listens to CD's in the car? D3 with volumeknob..plus new and improved Ipod interface....plus latest Bluetooth technology including BT Audio=2007. Get with us.
  10. you connect it just like you would any blutetooth device. Have you followed the instructions in the D3 manual? Do you have your bluetooth transmitter on the Treo enabled? I have a Verizon Palm treo 650, and it connects each time with no issue.
  11. Thus far I've seen the McDonalds Logo, a tiny red lobster, Shell Gas station logo, Outback sign (Outback Steakhouse)....and several others that are somewhat generic. A Pizza for example
  12. Is there any way (on the D3) to modify an entry to differentiate between Home, Cell, etc? On my Treo, I have them listed as such for each entry. But when transferred to the D3, nothing differentiates them, and I haven't found a way to manually edit on the D3 to differentiate.
  13. The illum wire either isnt hooked up, or is connected to a wire that obviously isnt dimming the unit when you turn your headlights on. Does your front ashtray have a lightbulb that turns on when you switch your lights on? If so, you can do as I did, and tap into the + wire for the ashtray lightbulb. That worked for me.
  14. Im aware there is a metal "plate" for the GPS antenna, which I used. But was there also a plate for the XM antenna? If so, I may need to look for it/install it, as my dash mounted XM antenna without the plate gets dropouts when Im traveling Eastbound
  15. Nope. Nothing dims on the D3 with your dimmer wheel. The only thing that dims is the screen, and that only occurs when you switch on your headlights/parking lights. And thats assuming you have your Illum wire hooked up to the proper source.
  16. For $75, that sounds like it was worth it.
  17. The scrolling isnt that bad with the d3. The ability to control the Ipod through the D3/have the Ipod locked in the glove far outweighs any perceived scrolling issues. And the titles are fine.
  18. Might be just me, but in a car (vs SUV or van), the camera is useless. I much prefer a separate backup sensor that beeps. Using the "beeps" in conjunction with looking over my right shoulder/using mirrors, is invaluable.
  19. Yep. I just checked. I played music videos on my ipod and used the navi on my D3. The music videos still displayed on the rear headrest monitors the entire time.
  20. That is what i mean..... if i want a certain song and i cant remember what number it is, then all i have to do is glance the list and press the song button i want. That changer does not do that. it just lists the track number. The reason I'm not getting an IPOD is because more than 50 Percent of my music collection is on WMA format which the Apple wont turn on the support for. Conversion? sure i can do that. But i am not. conversion will degrade the sound quality no matter if the converted file is capable of producing better sound that wma. if you rip the same cd on wma and on
  21. Trust me. Before the D3 I was about as anti-ipod as one could get. But having dozens of music videos, movies, thousands of songs..all in a tiny Ipod..controlled by the D3..is incredible. I'd rethink the Ipod decision if I were you. Good luck
  22. But FYI..I've been in two tunnels (Monitor-Merrimac near Hampton, VA) without my VSS connected..and with only 50% learning in place..and the D3 tracked the car, speed, location, arrow..everything..without a hiccup.
  23. Update. Started having the same issues with the replacement ipod. The other poster hit the nail on the head..which I also learned on Ilounge.com last night. For music videos (and possibly other videos), you have to go into the "Get Info" tab for each video, and UNCHECK the "skip when shuffling" (or whatever it's called) mode. THIS will allow the music video playlists to operate as intended. Apparently this is some quirke with either video ipods or Itunes. Has NOTHING to do with the Avic
  24. D3 doesnt display it's Navigation screens to an external source/monitor.
