  1. Did USB1 ever work for you? Did you try plugging the lightning cable directly to USB 1 (without the male-female extension)? Have you tested the male-female extension cable in USB2 to see if it works? What else have you done to systematically troubleshoot the problem?
  2. I believe that's just to make sure that you run the firmware update while you're parked. The bypass should work to allow you to run the update because your head unit will think the parking brake is on. At least that's how I understand it. I haven't run an update yet on my Appradio 4. I think I may have read once that somebody performed a firmware update while driving (not advised), so apparently his bypass was working.
  3. That is good news and kind of unexpected/under the radar. I use I Heart Radio and Tune In to get my local AM sports stations because my radio sucks. With Tune In and iOS8.3 allowing CarPlay to work with a locked phone, I have almost no need to reach for my phone anymore.
  4. Seems like a misunderstanding... I actually never said that I wasn't using "the AppRadio". I just said that I once had my iPhone 6 running with an Appradio 2. My current setup, which I did not discuss in this thread, is the iPhone 6 with an Appradio 4. I use CarPlay with that and do not use AppRadio Mode any longer.
  5. I never really experienced the issues that iOS 8.3 fixed, but I also noticed that it seems to run more smoothly now. Album art in CarPlay mode is still pretty dark to me, but I never really cared anyway. Album art shows up in Pandora (was than an issue before?). One of the best things for me is not having to unlock your phone anymore for CarPlay. Unfortunately you still have to hit "OK" on the HU and if you want to listen to non-CarPlay media you still have to unlock your phone to do that. In other words, CarPlay doesn't unlock your phone - it operates despite the phone being locked.
  6. iOS 8.3 was officially released today [for everyone] and with it the dawn of Wireless CarPlay [for some].
  7. Great place to start (the connections are the same for iPhone5 and 6: http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/36258-iphone-5-with-appradio-2-frequently-asked-questions/ You can tuck all of those adapters away and run a lightning extension between the AV adapter and your phone. It helps clean up the visible wiring. The best one is the Cable Jive Dock Xtender. I had my iPhone 6 working with an AppRadio 2 for a while. There are known issues that are well-documented here. But the basics will still work. I got kind of tired of the longish boot times with that setup. The bluetooth connection, whi
  8. It would probably be best to find a way to go back to iOS 8.1.3. The Appradio 2 hasn't been supported for two generations now (the worst part about Pioneer). I don't think there's much chance to get it compatible with iOS 8.2. I had an AppRadio 2 that I recently replaced with an AppRadio 4. When new iOS updates were released I waited until somebody could confirm that it worked with the same setup as me. I was using an iPhone 4S since it was released! It was tough to wait it out, but then I had to step into 2015 with an iPhone 6 and AppRadio 4. Technology just moves very fast these days. Lu
  9. Glad that got fixed. It's amazing that a pro would get that wrong. We have a G35 in the house. I replaced the OEM head unit with a refurbished one a while back. The car is screwed together a little better than a Toyota, Honda, etc. but it was still fairly simple. Hopefully the shop did not charge you for their error.
  10. I wouldn't hold my breath on that. I do not think there is any possible video transfer via Lightning cable alone. Additionally, playing video goes against CarPlay's sole purpose - a "safer" way to harness your phone's capabilities while driving. I really wonder what MLB At Bat will do in CarPlay. Maybe just audio, like all other CarPlay apps so far (except Maps).
  11. Along with using USB1, also check to make sure that your head unit is set up for CarPlay. It's somewhere in phone settings. Hopefully it's as simple as that.
  12. I don't know the answer either (I'm guessing it's minimal). http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=How+much+of+my+data+allowance+is+used+for+GPS
  13. It's probably the cable. Try out an MFi (made for iPhone) certified cable or an actual Apple cable to rule it out.
  14. Using only a lightning cable is for CarPlay and Appradio One only. For AppRadio mode, you'll need to add the apple digital AV adapter and an HDMI cable. If you want to tuck all of that stuff away for a clean installation, you'll also need a female to male lightning extension cord that is known to work (such as the Cable Jive dockxtender).
  15. I may actually be on FW 1.07. That's the latest I can see on the Pioneer (USA) site. Whatever the current version is, that's what I have (1.07?). Where did you get 1.08? Are you using an American head unit?
  16. I had contacted Pioneer about the AR4 crashing while trying to use CarPlay. This was also on 1.08, but with the previous iOS. They could not duplicate the error, although I had experienced it several times. Perhaps it was a different error than you have experienced because the radio itself became almost unresponsive. It would take a minute just to register a command. The only way to fix it was to turn off the ignition and turn the car back on. I may remedy that by placing an inline switch somewhere so that I can force the head unit to reboot even if I'm driving. I installed iOS 8.2 yester
  17. I was thinking about putting an inline switch in the power line for my AppRadio4 for the same exact reason. Thanks for confirming the underlying problem! I actually have contacted Pioneer to see if there was a way to power cycle the radio without turning off the ignition - no dice. I've experienced a few times when the radio crashes when trying to use CarPlay. Sometimes it'll sort of work, but take about a minute to respond to commands. This is no good if you're driving and don't want to pull over to restart the radio. A switch would definitely help to keep on truckin' and be able to reboot th
  18. You can also get a cheap power supply from a hobby store. These are much cheaper than other 12V powers sources made for CB radio, etc. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__19680__HobbyKing_350w_25A_Power_Supply_100v_120v_USA_Warehouse_.html Edit: found this too https://www.google.com/shopping/product/810825727753794962?q=12v+cb+radio+power+supply&espv=2&biw=1184&bih=550&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.&bvm=bv.86956481,d.eXY&ion=1&tch=1&ech=1&psi=tlTvVIzaA8ihNuP4geAD.1424970934767.5&prds=paur:ClkAsKraX5NB07Zh1nedfkDNO2ARVqZk6pUPDFSZE2g6ubfXRIXraSwSX4gZMY
  19. I don't have a spare 12V battery and I sold my 12V power supply a long time ago, thinking I'd never need it. I have ended up bench testing my head units by running a cigarette lighter plug to my car, which is parked right next to my bench, then running wires from that to alligator clips that I used to power the test units. I also used alligator clips to run the speaker outputs to some random 4ohm speakers I had in my garage. Worked for me, although I'll probably get another 12V power supply someday.
  20. Same thing happened to me when all of a sudden Siri and call volume went mute (I had made no adjustments as far as I knew). I must have inadvertently toggled the volume control down while Siri was talking. That's the only way i can make sense of it. Perhaps it can't be adjusted in-call. it should work if you just press the Siri button and turn the volume up while she's asking "what can I help you with?" (or whatever she says). Good luck.
  21. In my experience with CarPlay, the "Alerts" volume is just for maps. To adjust Siri or call volume, you have to use your head unit's volume control while there should be sound, like when Siri is talking (or maybe when you're on a call - haven't tried that). At any other time, the volume control adjusts the media (music) volume. There is no on screen display that lets you know what volume you're adjusting. I just learned this by trial and error. Unfortunately, there is no CarPlay manual, nor are there a "settings" menu, which would be nice to have. I hope Apple tweaks this in an update.
  22. Yes, The mic is a separate accessory that has to be placed where your head would be when you run auto EQ. I already had one that came with my Pioneer home A/V receiver. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Accessories/AV-Components/CD-MC20
  23. I just ran across this question and, while I have no definite answer (or an 8000 NEX), could it be that your VSS wire isn't connected?
  24. If you can sell head units by the millions (like the tablet market does) prices should drop. Unfortunately the demographic for aftermarket car audio is significantly smaller than that for tablets. Head units will always seem expensive because their production lacks the same economy of scale that more mainstream consumer electronics do.
  25. When using Carplay, phone calls are handled via the CarPlay Interface. If you do not connect the lightning cable phone calls use bluetooth via Pioneer's interface. CarPlay can only use USB1. If you have your iPhone connected to USB1, then USB2 can be used for anything. If you do not have your iPhone connected to USB1, it will connect via bluetooth. If you connect an iPod to USB2 in this scenario, you will retain bluetooth phone, but lose bluetooth music streaming. If you have another USB device plugged into USB2 that isn't an iPod, then bluetooth is fully functional.
