Fair enough, getting this set up can be admittedly complicated, particularly if you are not overly familiar with what makes your phone tick. On the other hand it opens up interesting possibilities once you do have it up and running.

I'm not sure. In theory mirrorlink works but in reality Samsung devices can sometimes be contrary. I would ask the developer of ARUR (Area 51) for his input before proceeding.

You can mirror your phone to the 8100NEX via HDMI using a Samsung MHL adapter. If you want to have control from your head unit's screen you will also need to root your phone and use ARUnchained Reloaded. The app is expensive (as far as apps go) but it does exactly what you are looking for.

In my 370Z I installed two of these PAC extendersin my center console for my 8000NEX. I didn't use the mounting bracket, I just drilled two holes and ran the wires. They didn't have to be screwed in or glued or anything, there are flanges on either side of the USB ports that hold them securely in place. I also have one of these on my 370Z with an 8000NEX. The color reproduction with it has always been a little wonky, but the image is crisp and the nightvision is serviceable. Not bad for the price. How to run the wires is highly vehicle dependent. Like EditorDZ I also ran mine while I had the interior panels out of my car for the audio install. Ultimately it's not very difficult, just time consuming.

The Note 2 is a pain in the ass to set up for the 8000NEX. What MHL adapter do you have? Are you on AR Unchained or did you purchase ARUR? When you go into your Phone Settings/About Device what does it say under SE for Android status?

I wonder what I have done wrong with my setup then. I have never been satisfied with call quality on the 8000NEX...constant audio drops and echoes....so much so that I actively avoid using the HU for phone calls whenever possible. I love my NEX dearly, but my previous Kenwood's call quality was superior in every way.

I am aware of this and was speaking in general terms. The reason I didn't make mention of this specifically is because I suspect the number of people who have Motorola devices that remain on ICS yet are currently unrooted is rather small, particularly in regards to anyone who might be reading this forum. One could of course root and rollback to an ICS based ROM, yet significantly altering the OS of any phone is beyond the scope of what I was trying to address here. Great questions! Unfortunately rooting will not allow you to use an MHL connection on a non MHL enabled device. For our purposes here rooting only removes some artificial restrictions that stop you from running ARU Reloaded. The Razr Maxx HD also doesn't support MHL (no Motorola devices do), but I believe it is confirmed to work with ARU Reloaded via a straight HDMI to HDMI connection. The appradio app is limited to Pioneer approved apps and frankly more of a pain in the ass than it's worth. Seriously, if you don't want to give up on Google consider getting a compatible (rootable) phone and installing ARU Reloaded on it. At $30 it's expensive as far as apps go, but there are no more limitations, no more inconsistencies, and it's well supported by the developer. Your HU simply becomes the display for your phone and thus all apps work exactly the way you expect them to. It's practically a no brainer.

I originally set it up using an unreleased modified kernel (selinux permissive), but have since switched back to the stock ROM/kernel for compatibility with some of my other toys. I originally tried to get this running on the Note 4 using a variety of wireless dongles and wasn't having good results. Things didn't fall into place until I switched to the Samsung MHL adapter (the official white one, not the older black one).

I use mine primarily for my MHL adapter for mirroring my phone, which in turn mostly just acts nowadays as a remote terminal to my server and PC at home. This eliminates the shortcomings of the NEX units with regards to mass storage, but is only really feasible if you spend most of your time primarily in an area with robust LTE service.

I guess it would really depend on the vehicle. I get what you're saying about reflections and I might hesitate on a capacitive display in a vehicle where the HU is mounted high on the dash. Having said that, after using the 8000NEX in my Z after a very long line of HU's with resistive screens there is simply no way I could go back. I've found that the capacitive screen provides superior performance in just about every way.

Whichever steering wheel interface you have (Axxess, etc.) is programmed for Alpine control. You need to reprogram it for use with a Pioneer.

I thought it was worth it, but then again I REALLY wanted the capacitive screen and built in NAV. I haven't regretted it a bit either, though of course YMMV.

I wish it wasn't so cold and snowing today. I need to pull my HU so I can plug my HDMI cable back in for this. I should have just left it in place when I did my original install. Hindsight is 20/20. Screw it, I might just go out and do it anyway.

The temperatures around here have just started dipping this low, and I have yet to experience this issue on the 8000. Not looking forward to it if it happens...is the entire unit unresponsive or just the screen? I can live without the screen during my morning commute as long as long as I have audio and can at least adjust the volume, etc.

I absolutely agree. They're running on an Arc Audio XDi 1100.5 and sound beautiful.

Hertz HSK165XL's and a JL 10W3. Frankly, they're amazing but spendy. Having said that, I'm not sure I would bother hooking up any aftermarket speakers without an appropriate amplifier. Sure, you might get some marginal benefit out of aftermarket speakers over whatever cheap factory speakers came preinstalled in your car, but it's asking a lot of a head unit to be able to drive any aftermarket speakers efficiently.
