  1. I saw these knobs on here but did not see install details. Does it just fit on top of the existing knob or do you remove the existing one and install the new one? Thanks.
  2. A very subtle but nice change in the 3.0 update... As before, if your unit boots directly into the map screen you will be given the warning message with the OK button. Except now you can just lightly tap the OK button and it responds on the FIRST TRY! I can't tell you how many mornings I got into my car with 2.0 FW and had to keep mashing the OK button on the screen over and over just to see the map screen. So much more responsive now when booting. I'm 3 days into using 3.0 and already see such a difference. The highway signs are AWESOME and appear exactly as they do on the road.
  3. I actually threw caution to the wind and did not leave my engine running when I performed this. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what alternators are for? Won't it just recharge? I had no problems at all starting my car after letting the update run for an hour or so.
  4. And oh yeah, going to just hang on to my SD cards as well. Considering past history with my F900BT, I'm assuming I will need them for a reinstall in the future...
  5. Just got my SDs in the mail today and performed the upgrade. Everything went great aside from the error at 98% of the 2nd SD that required a retry. The following are significantly faster now: 1. Touch screen response 2. iPod VR catalog activation 3. Bluetooth phone connect 4. Navigating/playing media off of SD cards Unit seems to take just as long to start up, but it's a lot more responsive while still booting than it used to be. Have not had a chance to make any calls or drive around with it. Very sad that it took 2 years and $68 to get it to this level of performance, b
  6. Lol, too funny... must be crazy-strong if it can support an F500BT Girl should also be hotter.
  7. Take a look around eBay... I seem to remember seeing VGA ----> composite cables there before for very cheap. I don't think the widescreen ratio will work at all though...
  8. My F900BT update "shipped" last night. No tracking number. From what I have read from others, I think Pioneer's definition of "shipped" really means "finally charged your credit card, considering putting the item into a box sometime soon........maybe"
  9. Ordered mine on 7/23/2009 and it has not shipped. I did see another post on here from someone saying they ordered on 8/6/2009 and it shipped the next day so I'm not sure what Pioneer is doing...
  10. Ordered on 7/23/2009 for my F900BT, still awaiting shipment. They must be processing these in the sequence they were ordered in.
  11. Great, thanks for the link! I guess the software must all be the same if people are updating their F-Series with something meant for the X-Series...
  12. Sorry all but I did some searching and can't seem to find the answer to this here. What exactly is the 3.01 update? Pioneer hasn't even shipped the 3.0 update and yet there's already another one publicly available? Again my apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. All I can find is references to 3.01, not an explanation of what it is or what it's good for. Thanks!
  13. The ability to read text messages using Samantha is only supported on a handful of phones, most of which I recall being Motorola. Someone posted a link to a PDF on the forum a while back that lists of each phone and what it can and can't do on the F-Series. Do a little digging, it should still be around here somewhere. As for the price of the 3.0 update, it includes maps. Most map updates I have seen were north of $120 for other units, so it's really not that unreasonable. Still a bummer, but oh well...
  14. Kev, wow great work here! I'd say those 4 screenshots are a pretty comprehensive description of the problem. There has got to be some ultra-obscure cause to all of this. I have managed to get nothing but pixelated artwork from the following devices: 1. 30GB 4th gen iPod Video 2. 120GB iPod Classic 3. 1st gen 16GB iPhone 4. 32GB iPhone 3G S I am using Pioneer's iPod cable. It seemed like a problem related to how the images are stored in the iTunes library, but now I am not so sure. I am reading reports of it occurring with the same files from the same library on different
  15. Yes Kev, that definitely occurred to me as well and it sounds like the most likely explanation at this point. "Blurry" and "clear" are all relative to whoever is viewing it and I think some people just have different opinions of what those terms mean. Album art all looks sharp as ever in promotional materials, but that doesn't surprise me at all
  16. I think the prospect of (maybe) finally having the performance/functionality we expected out of the box is going to our heads!
  17. Has anyone been able to determine the root cause of this? This issue persists across multiple iPods/iPhones for me. I always just have iTunes automatically fetch album artwork for me and they all look like high-quality images on my Mac, but pixelated garbage on my F900BT. I have tried reinstalling firmware on the AVIC, rebuilding iPods, reinstalling iPod firmware, stripping all of the cover art out of my library and downloading it all again, etc... Nothing has made a lick of a difference with this issue. Some people have this problem and others don't. I have yet to see a determ
  18. Oh yeah definitely one card. I'm just referring to having to pull the card out, erase the files, dump more files on, reinsert card, install the files new files, etc... From other posts I have read here, the increased speed of menu navigation is attributed to the WinCE update. If this is definitely the case, and Pioneer chooses not to update it as part of the 3.0 update then can we kiss more responsive menus goodbye? I have never had to enter testmode on my unit and I don't think I should have to in order get a responsive UI. Just my $0.02...
  19. Hmmm I recall only ever having to insert one SD card and power up the unit with official updates. That's how they can make it much simpler.
  20. Does anyone know if the official 3.0 SD cards being shipped from Pioneer will perform the WinCE update too? I have yet to see a fool-proof, average consumer-friendly method of doing this. I can't imagine Pioneer will expect customers to jump through this many hoops with swapping SD cards, booting into testmode, etc for this update. I have read about SO many nightmares with using the official Pioneer updaters that I am hardly willing to try this method. Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking anyone for providing this solution as it's obviously awesome. Just wondering if anyone knows
  21. Honestly, I would love for the GPS to tell me or AT LEAST show me which side of the road my destination is on once I arrive. I can't tell you how many times I have overshot my destination because I'm trying to track address numbers on the side of the road. Not only inconvenient, but also unsafe!
  22. I have the F900BT and I've been using 2.0 since the day it was released. For me, it has been SOLID. Almost all of the major bugs have been squashed. No more random reboots or i Pod connection drops. There are still a few features I would like to see in terms of the Navi, but nothing that is a show-stopper for me. The only thing I notice is that sometimes when I start it up, the iPod never connects and it requires a restart of the unit to get it to show up in my AV Sources screen. That may very well be problem with my iPod though. So to anyone considering purchasing this unit, I
  23. This update might actually be what we've all been waiting so patiently for! UI is all-around a lot more responsive and snappy. No more long delays trying to make BT phone calls. My iPod has not dropped since installing the update but only time will tell if that bug is truly squashed. The GPS map also seems to update\move faster now. Thank you Pioneer! *Keeps fingers crossed that iPod stays stable*
  24. I hope they plan on resolving ALL of the iPod connectivity issues and not just Touch 2.0. I can honestly say that I would be satisfied with them squashing just that one bug. Will it take someone smashing into a tree while they're reaching into their glovebox to reconnect their iPod? I guess only time will tell...
  25. Hmmm I had a similar problem with my F900BT. I tracked it down to the SD card. I ended up removing the SD card, pugging it into my PC, and erasing the 'device.nrg' file that the unit stores in the root of the SD card. Reinserted the card, and no more re-booting issues Could have just been a coincidence, but the SD card was definitely causing the reboots.
