1.

And how about a "reroute" button. Whenever I go off-route, it seems desparate to get me back to the route rather than to my destination. Maybe even just an "Avoid U-Turns" option.
Thats odd, my unit reroutes almost immediately.
I'm like Hyperite...mine keeps trying to get me back to the Z1 route instead of offering me an alternative way using my current location. Heck...I'm almost at my destination before it finally decides I'm not turning around and going the way it wanted me to. On a good note though....the next time
2. It really upsets me when I hear stories like this. You pay good money to have a "professional" install your unit and you get a half assed job back. No wonder the only time I take something to a dealer for repair is for warranty coverage. You just can't trust them. If I were you, I would send an email to Best Buy's upper management and express your displeasure with their service. Name names and dates. Honestly, if they can't do a better job than that, they should be doing something else for a living. At the very least they should have told you they couldn't/wouldn't hook it up for wh
3. When you put it that way, it makes perfect sense Steve!

amp wire?

We need more info about what you're running. i.e. aftermarket amps? factory amp? What kind of vehicle?
5.
CD-SR1 direct from pioneer $20
Bigfloppy...isn't that an IR remote and not hard wired?
6. Thanks for the clarification PF. You definitely seem to know what you're doing and I've very impressed...even if you do drive a Corvette!! LOL (I drive an 04 Cobra) Actually, the new C6 is nothing short of sex on wheels. Gorgeous cars. I showed all this to my son. He's a developer and a data miner and has done his share of hacking in the past with such things as an X Box, Tivo, etc etc. He had some interesting ideas and I asked him to join the forum and add his .02 to the mix.
7. I have been in contact with PAC about a trigger for the Z1 for voice activation. In other words, you could assign one of your steering wheel buttons you don't use to activate the voice command feature of the Z1. Can anyone definitively tell me whether or not the Z1 is capable of that? I swear I read here somewhere that someone bought a steering wheel control that did just that...but I'm betting it was IR and I thought the Z1 was wired only...so maybe he was talking about another unit. If this is possible, PAC is very interested in adding this to their SWI-PS controller. Wouldn't it be
8. Someone please tell me I'm wrong.... With the Bluetooth module (and phone) did I read the instructions correctly that there is no hands free way of answering the phone? There is no voice command such as "answer pnone"? If I read correctly, you have to hit the icon on the screen to answer an incoming call and hang up. What an amazing omission if this is true. You can voice activate a call, but you can't answer???
9. As mentioned earlier...there is no resistor on the VSS line. Nada. There is one on the reverse sensing line and the instructions are pretty clear about not removing it. That would make me nervous. I wonder where he got his information to try removing it?? Maybe he tapped into a computer circuit for reverse that only uses 5V? That would make sense...but again, make me nervous he tapped into a ECM circuit. Some of these installers are in way over their heads with units such as this and it would behoove Pioneer to properly train them or offer them a help line before one of them really
10. You also need to make sure that if you are using the data cable and the IP Bus cable, that you DO NOT hook up the red (switched power) wire of the XM module. Leave that taped off and hook up the yellow (constant power) only. One last thing...call XM and have them check your account. There phone bank is in India or Jacarta or something like that. They don't always understand English that well and may have screwed up your order so you aren't recieving XM radio...
11. Mine is mounted under my dash, so I'm hoping it's protected from the heat. But one teen temps are very common here already this year and it's only going to get hotter...so we'll see I guess. But then again, the roof or trunk of your car gets a lot hotter than under my dash when it's sitting in the sun. By the way...with the problems you had on Palm Springs....do you have your VSS hooked up?
12.
Blown Fuse?
My God...I would hope the installer was sharp enough to check all the power supplies before he yanked the unit and shipped it back! But you never know I guess....
13. I installed the Z1 in my wife's Aviator over the weekend. I also installed and added the SWI-PS and the XM/NavTraffic module. I bought a bypass module from Ducatiboy and he also made me up a voltage regulator to lower the sub turn on voltage to 5V that Ford uses to turn on the subwoofer amp. Absolutely everything was perfect the first time out! Steve's stuff is some of the highest quality work you will ever see. It's hard to believe he builds those by hand. I have never dealt with anyone who is as helpful as he is and is willing to do whatever it takes to make you happy. Quite honestly
14. I posted this comment in the other thread and thought I would copy it here. Other than this...I will try and stay out of your guy's way and just STHU and listen.... Ok...first thing I need to say is for the most part, you guys are WAAAAY over my head with your abilities...so please keep that in mind before you roast my butt!! LOL My first question is...aren't you saying that if you load mp3's onto a DVD or CD the Z1 will play them? If so, isn't there software already on the Z1 you can utilize? Maybe some sort of path needs to be written in that software to direct it to the hard d

Maybe some sort of path needs to be written in that software to direct it to the hard drive instead of the disc. Next question...doesn't an ipod play mp3's? (seriously...I have never owned one and I don't know for sure...but I swear my son told me that
16. I thought the response time was excellent!
17.
awesome, thanks. Would you happen to know where my speed sensor wire is?
If your factory stereo has speed sensitive volume, (it probably does...read your owner's manual) there will be a VSS wire right at the stereo itself. I believe it was a GY/BK wire on the Aviator. See if you can get someone with a wiring diagram manual to look at the connector view for your radio. It will show exactly what wire it is and what color along with the exact pin location.
18. NEVER, EVER use ground shipping when you buy something this expensive and delicate. It gets handled too many times and spends too much time getting beat up over the road. ALWAYS spring for air freight. It's only handled a couple of times and doesn't get beat up by every pot hole in the highway. AND....you don't have to wait as long!!
19. F150...I don't know if you ever figured out where your SWI plugs into, but it goes into one of the harnesses that has RCA connectors to it. On my Aviator, it was the only connection I used in that entire harness if I recall. The one you are looking for has a pigtail that matches the plug to the SWI and is labeled Wired Remote if I recall. Whatever it's labeled, it was self explanatory.
20.
Thanks for your inputs...but do you happen to know where I can find out what cities it's in?
Here you go... http://www.xmradio.com/xmnavtraffic/market_coverage.jsp Unfortunately, Jacksonville isn't listed yet. But the list is growing pretty fast now. And by the way, here in Phx, it's a very nice system. It includes traffic flow data too so you can tell where the log jams are. There are a couple of features I have yet to figure out with the Z1, but I just got it too...so I'll g
21.
Honestly if I were a dealer/installer, I would be very reluctant to sell/install any bypass circuit for a customer. I could be legally liable if the customer got into an acident while using the unit with features enabled as a result of the bypass. The customer may not sue me, but any third party may sue me if they found out.
Damn good point.
22. Steve...on our Aviators (I have the CD-6) Do we need to reduce the voltage to the amp to 5V with the regulator and capacitors?
23. Don't bet the farm that Pioneer fixes the bypass. Believe me....they want us to know this. It sells units. How many of you would have paid this kind of money for a NAV unit you can't fully utiize otherwise? Just like the D1 hack was leaked by a Pioneer rep...don't bet this one didn't get a kick start the same way.
24. I REALLY don't think you will ever see Pioneer fix this bypass. This is something they WANT to have out. It sells units! I for one would never buy one of these if I couldn't use the NAV features while in motion. What a waste without it. Just like the original hack for the D1 was leaked by a Pioneer rep...don't be surprised if this one wasn't too. Ducatiboy...I think you said you installed your unit in an Aviator. That's what I want to put it in too (an 03). If you don't mind, I would like to PM or email you about what you found necessary to purchase so I can get everything ordered
