tillithz
get nero, start smart.. dvd.. burn image. select .iso file.. burn... then try it that way on a dvd-r
ducatiboy
A DVD isn't a bad thing to try, but I don't think the CD vs DVD is the problem. Not that I know what the problem is. But everyone else updated with a CD and not a DVD. I wonder if the ISO settings even work for a DVD. It's worth trying I guess. What worked for me, Nero, no smart start, regular mode.... create a CD, make sure you give it the same label as the iso image says. Then create a CD with Mode 1, ISO 9660 Only, 31 character Level 2. Copied the files over to the new drive and it worked.
WhyteSTI
^Thanks guys. I was using the freeware of the ISO burner, so I'm going to give Nero a try. Hopefully that solves my problems. I'll post up if I can or can't get it. Cheers.
SilveradoJim
Does anyone know if there is a way to determine if you already have the firmware update? Can you tell by looking at the hardware version? I have a newer unit (August 06 I think) that is bypassed. I have the original microphone (which I'm considering replacing). I have not done the level 3 reset and re-pair the phone with the volume turned down, but I'm going to try this next. My wife reports that "it sounds like I'm a long way away" when she talks to me on bluetooth. When I turn up the volume to where I want it, she says that it echos. Anyone had any success by replacing the microphone?
howarmat
I used DVDDecrytper to burn the image to a cd-r and loaded it with the map screen already on. It started no problem. When it rebooted to the map screen, it read the cd again and said "update already installed" or something. Hope this helps answer a few questions.
WhyteSTI
Well, still no luck. Tried Nero, followed Ducatiboy's instructions on the settings and burned the image to a CD-R. When I put the CD into the Z1, it spins while its "checking disc" and then just gives me the "CD-ROM Inserted" message. Doesn't matter if I start in AV or Map, or any other screen. I've tried rebooting with the update disc in as well to no avail. Hmm, I hate not being able to figure this out. My next try will be with a DVD-R but I still can't figure out where the problem might be.
SilveradoJim
I re-paired my phone following Ducatiboy's instructions doing a level 3 reset. It totally eliminated any echo (razor V3, Cingular), but the microphone level is still too low. Did I miss something somewhere? Is there a mic gain that I can set somewhere? It seems like there should be one on the volume screen with the telephone, guidance, and other settings. If someone knows how to increase the gain on the microphone, please let me know. Thanks! tillithz
go into settings, volume.. and i think its there.. drawing from memory anyways.
ducatiboy
I don't think there is a Mic gain anywhere. That's just speaker volume.
tsiawd666
Mine just sat there when I inserted my disc. I rebooted my unit and then after bootup prompted me for proceeding with the update. As for Mic Gain, there is no setting in the Z1. You'll need to adjust the bluetooth mic gain on your phone. Whether you can do this from your phone's config menus or with third party software depends on your phone. I have to use third party software and a usb cable to do the adjustment on my SLVR. lamikela1
The easiest way to burn an iso file with Nero is to right click on the file and select Burn to CD or Burn with Nero, something like that. Once you make that selection it will automatically set up the proper parameters for burning an iso. You don't have to worry about how to set it up.

Once you make that selection it will automatically set up the proper parameters for burning an iso. You don't have to worry about how to set it up. While that is true, that is what I did and it burned a disk (4 times on 2 different machines with 2 separate downloads from 2 different locations) with a bad file on it. What worked for me was setting up the cd project and burning the files. While this isn't what most people will need to do. Most people will do it your way. That didn't work for me the time or 2 I tried it and it's not working for the current guy we are trying to help, so we are giving alternative ways than just "burn iso with nero". But yes, most people will want to burn this iso just like you said.
lamikela1
Thanks Ducatiboy. I was not aware that he had already tried that.
kleenkut13
I just got my Avic Z1 installed last night and of course I love it. I have a Oct 06 unit and I did have one person complain about Echo, so will try the cd tonight. The installers refused to ground my system so I could bypass it (the usual company liability speech) so I will install the update cd tonight and try to use Ducatiboy's bypass on Sat. Is this what is recommended? Update first, then rewire for bypass? Thanks In Advance!
