AVIC-F Hardwire Bypass for Dummies

In service manual there is about pin 4 only written that it is K-mot pin but no other description. Really it is connected via diode to processor.

Because we dont know what it really do, I will ground inly light green wire and will compare how unit works with you in this forum.

Thanks minifreezer. The only reason I'm so skeptical is because I have a buddy who works at Future Shop and does car audio installation and when he tried to do the bypass for someone using the hardware bypass, it worked for a few days and then stopped working for some reason. And he says he triple checked all the connections and that they were soldered so I can't understand why it wouldn't work for him. His friend's using the 2.0 firmware too. Any ideas why it may not have worked?

 

 

Sorry for the long wait to reply. I dont know why it only worked for a couple of days then stop. The only thing i can think of is that the mute wire worked its way out of the pin slot. I am an Eletronics and Environmetal Specialist in the Air Force and I have seen pins come lose from plugs but still had just enough bite on its mate than when you unplug the connector it pulled the pin back into position, but when you plug the connector back up it would the pin would get pushed backwards. I got my f90bt with 2.0 already installed did the hardwire bypass and have not had a prob since, and it has been about 6 weeks.

Yeasterday I come back from F900BT installation, on my wish they grounded only light green wire and nothing other do with mute 4 pin .

Device can fully control during drive, videos plays, and I try test mode is accessible too and reneme that horrible key beeps to _old files so now it is faster and silent.

 

What I have is Europe F900BT. Because nobody can tell here why use that 4 pin grounded, I recommend not use it because you can in some cases demage device and got same result with grounded light green wire.

On the US units if you dont move the mute wire and ground it the unit gives a screen stating that the parking brake wire is not connected correctly, or something to that affect.

Took me awhile to get this all figured out and I had to draw from multiple sources since the other hardwire bypass thread is littered with conflicting information and information on the software bypass which is irrelevant if you do the hardwire bypass. So, with credit to those whose pictures I'm using, here you go:

 

NOTE: THIS IS THE PURE HARDWARE BYPASS. IF YOU DO THIS BYPASS, YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO THE SOFWARE BYPASS. PLEASE DO NOT ASK SOFTWARE BYPASS QUESTIONS IN THIS THREAD.

 

I disagree with the the statement that you do not need to do the software bypass-at least on the F500, if you just ground the parking break wire, unless you change the "parking_break_speed=16.0" speed to a greater value, you might as well not even bother grounding the parking break wire as those functions that the bypass enables won't be available over 10 mph. One other thing to mention. The parking break speed in "parking_break_speed=16.0" is in Kilometers per hour. If you set it to 128, the functions that the bypass enables will be blacked out at 80 mph. I changed mine to 256 as while I don't often drive over 80 mph, I want the full functionality if I do.

i was browsing this site to get familiar with the F series before mine came. Thanks to all the advice here; my f700BT came yesterday and i have been doing all the pre wiring before I open up my car. I used a sewing pin to release the mute wire and it came out instantly. Reinserting was just as easy, I bent it in the L shaped as suggested and it slid in and clicked with ease. Hope it translates over when I do the install.

I read this total tread, and I'm still not getting it, why are you guys connecting pin4 with ground? What does pin 4 do? I only connected the parking brake wire and it works like a charm. But maybe that is because of the f700 not having dvd?

I can't speak to the f700, but for the 900/90, if you just ground the parking brake wire, it apparently also checks that your speed is still below XX, unless you do the additional mute pin move/ground. If you search, you'll find that the "software" bypass involves increasing this speed limit by modifying the code, thus raising the limit to some arbitrarily high value. In that case, only the parking wire needs to be grounded.

The statement is accurate. This thread describes grounding the parking break wire AND the mute wire relocation and grounding. If that's done properly, no software bypass is necessary.

ok so i finally did the install of my f700bt in under 2.5 hrs and everything went smooth and works perfectly except I don't know if the bypass took really. I get the nav warning as usual, and get the nav menu but the Destination option is grayed out and I can't access it when driving or in park. I can access the POI option and that works perfectly while I am driving. Routes and everything. So did the bypass take? How can I access the Destination option? I did the hardware mod-- moved the mute wire then grounded that with the parking brake wire to the frame. Thanks so much.
