I've noticed a TON of rebooting/failure to boot/black screen threads - listed below are some of the threads. Has anyone contacted Pioneer about this? CLEARLY there is a widespread issue here. With no recent updates, it's hard to blame it on a recent change but this has suddenly become a bigger problem. I don't recell it being mentioned a couple of months ago. Mods don't seem to be the culprit either (see #12)

All of these since April of this year - none (that I am aware of before). Ridiculous that this hasn't been addressed by Pioneer. Seems to me like this is encroaching on product recall territory.

I tried some of the fixes mentioned in some of the treads, spoke to crutchfield, spoke with a local car audio place, spoke with pioneer, and emailed with Pioneer. They said send it in (all of them). Luckily I am under warranty still, but barely...The unit was purchased in the end of July last year. Pioneer said if I wasn't under warranty base rate is 200.00. Seems steep for a hardware/software problem on their end.

So, my curiousity is how old are the units that are having trouble? Mine is 11 months old. unfortunately, I dropped it in the mail to the service center today. I wonder if there is a batch that got bad hardware?

Hopefully the unit they send back is trouble free for the rest of my vehicles life and it comes with V3.0 loaded on it already.

By the way, I had no mods done to mine and it was not bypassed.

I drove to Canada from NC using the Navi on my F90BT. 5 miles from my destination the navigation begins to glitch ala max headroom. System now does a constant reboot from the Pioneer sign to black screen. Every 50-100th reboot, the main screen will come on and I can play music, however if I try to use navigation, it immediately goes into reboot mode. Any suggestions? I have a 12 hour drive soon, and would like to use my radio.

The one I worked on was less than 6 months old. I don't know the mfg date though

no mods to mine either

bought it in march of 2009 so only 3 months old and mine craps out.

I cant get into testmode - nothing. Im waiting for a fix

Bought mine in Aug/Sept of last year. Ran into this last weekend... some of the threads above did help me when I had the issues.

Symptoms: Splash screen stayed up for about 15 seconds, then black. Screen, buttons, everything. No response from any button. Reset would do the same thing. Did NOT try "hard reset" though. Got to Test Mode temporarily but as it finished that initial file copy it did the same thing.

Fix: Basically my fix was reinstall 2.0 update. Then I was able to get back to Test Mode and copy over my full backup (which saved my ass!).

Agreed. I stumbled upon this fix trying everything out of desperation. Worked for me too.

I have the reboot/freezing problem. Sent my unit in for service. Got it back and on the work order, all it said was "reloaded the software".

First week the unit worked flawlessly. Just today the system is acting up again. Rebooted 45 minutes into trip... after reboot the unit froze up....

POS.

Can someone tell me how you "re-install the software" In other words how to install the 2.0 firmware again if it's already installed? This is the only fix I haven't tried.

Put the SD card Pioneer supplied into the unit and let the card do its thing. you can get them for free from Pioneer.

My Fix:

1. insert 2.0 card and revert back to 2.0

2. Go into Testmode

3. Copy/Paste the harddrive files (I had a full backup of the modded data file

ok but say you don't have a memory card from pioneer. in my case i bought the unit refurbished off of ebay. how do i reinstall the 2.0 software? i'm desperate to get my unit fixed. i do alot of driving and it worked fine when i got out of the truck the night before, work up this morning and it would show the "pioneer" screen for about 20 seconds and then just shut off. i tried playing with all kinds of button combinations with the same results.

PLEASE HELP

Where are you located? I'm sure that if you went by an authorized dealer, they would have one. You'd only need it for 15 minutes or so.

Sadly, it took mine about 2 weeks or so to arrive from Pioneer. I'd highly recommend ordering one at this point, whether you have problems or not. It looks like it will come in handy sooner or later. Anyone know if it has been posted on megaupload or some other file sharing site?

I'd love to know why they is such a rampant occurance all of a sudden.

Posted Jun 24, 2009 · 15:41 UTC#14

You can just download the 2.0 update from Pioneer's website and put it on your own SD card. That's what I did and it worked fine.

Yet another reboot victim here. F90BT purchased in December of 08 with 2.0 factory installed. As mentioned, is it coincidence that everybody's AVIC-F is dumping now?

Yeah, just came back to edit that in as an option. Now I don't have to. Thanks ack54!

If theis had been happening occasionally all along, I'd think less of it but from May-June there have been dozens and dozens of posts about it. Some have had their unit a few weeks, others over a year. Some had modded theirs, others haven't.

Maybe this is an argument that 3.0 should be provided for free, IF it prevents this malfunction that is.

Add me to the list of pissed off F-Series owners with reboot problems. Started about two weeks ago. I have a F-900 and it gets to the menu screen but has the starting up message at the bottom that wont go away. If I try to enter maps it just gets stuck there at the warning screen. System reboots after a few minutes. I have not hacked mine yet and have had the 2.0 firmware since it came out. No problems at all till now. I don't even drive my car every week so I don't know what I could have done to it. I believe I'm a week out of warranty so I've been reading up on these threads and am going to make an attempt on this test mode restore stuff. I don't have an original image so I hope I don't mess it up. I'll post my updates in hopes that we can figure this out together.

Posted Jun 27, 2009 · 15:16 UTC#19

Just submitted a warranty claim. When I receive my unit back, I plan on not touching it until 3.0 comes out. I hope Pioneer is aware of this issue.

Read up on the disabling the rear view camera thing. It didn't work for me. I also tried switching the the rear camera setting to ground instead of battery and rebooting with the reset, reset + eject, and removing ground on the car battery. Everything is still the same and rebooting. I'm trying testmode next.

Tried deleting the gpsbin files and the contents of user/UserData. I have some files in UserData that wont delete. I think they are corrupt somehow. I moved them out of the way rebooted and it did not work. I tried to copy the full backup I found on the forums but I ran out of disk space. I'm going to try formatting MyFlashDisk and then doing the full copy again. I saw the new 2.0006 update came so I guess thats next.

Posted Jun 29, 2009 · 21:47 UTC#22

The format and recopy works for me!!! I'm still going to install the new 2.0006 firmware. The only hiccup I had is I forgot the name of the partition when I remade it. I called it 'pat0'. Looking at the other partitions they are labeled 'pat00' and 'pat01' but for some reason I think the My Flash Disk was called 'pat0'. Can anyone confirm if I'm right or wrong? Either way it remounted as 'My Flash Disk' so I'm pretty sure its okay. I hope the new firmware fixes this so no one has to go through this again. :D

Installed 2.006 and everything still works. Testmode however is gone. I will try leetLoader sometime.
