  1. i use Car Play all the time, and I have found some issues as well. But for me, the gain outweighs the pain. I use apple maps, music, beats, messages, phone and podcasts on Apple TV, and Sirius Radio and some FM on the NEX. For the most part, it works well, but at times it can be maddening. Here are some of my thoughts on using CarPlay for the past few months... Make sure the Lightning cable is seated firmly, and the iPhone Lightning socket is free from lint. I plug my iPhone in right after I start the car, but after the NEX boot up. I unplug the iPhone before I shut off the
  2. I noticed a couple odd things with my CarPlay setup as well. I was getting a lot of disconnects and some random radio reboots. Finally I noticed that the Lightning cable would come out of the iPhone very easily. At first, I thought that my everyday use of plugging in the cable into my phone about a dozen times cause the iPhone connector to loosen up. Then it hit me. I carry the iPhone in my pocket most of the time. So, I looked inside the iPhone Lightning socket and saw a bunch of lint. A LOT of lint. After removing all that junk, the cable was tight again and I have not had any disco
  3. Apple is only the most successful company on earth right now. They are, because they care about their customers. They provide a great product that just works. Google is nothing more than a company that wants to sell who you are to others. And Android is another vehicle to make that happen. Don't diss what you don't understand.
  4. That's way CarPlay will do just fine for me. Apple maps is being updated constantly and improving all the time. For free. These $129 map updates will soon be part of distant history.
  5. I find going from CarPlay to Sirus/XM very easy. Mode, Sirus. That's it. Not much different than changing from any other function to Sirus. But, try that with AppRadio and it is much more of a pain. My experience with CarPlay is that it is fairly seamless using CarPlay and the Pioneer side. Don't expect a ton of CarPlay apps until some of the new cars start rolling out. We may have it in aftermarket now, but that's a small group of users. Until 2015/2016 models roll out, app developers won't spend the time on it. How many CarPlay radios do you think are out in the wild right now?
  6. I guess it depends on what you want to do with the phone and NEX. My experience with the iPhone 6, CarPlay and the 8000NEX has been nothing but positive. I tried and quickly stopped using AppRadio due to all of the issues that have been well documented here. It seems to me that Apple has done a good job integrating CarPlay with the NEX radio. Most of the time going back and forth between the two systems is seamless. As far as the maps thing is concerned, I have no issues with the Apple maps. While Waze is cool, any crowd sourcing app needs input from its users in order to make it wo
  7. I believe it auto dims when the headlights are one.
  8. I use CarPlay all the time now. It works well with the stock radio and my Sirus ,so moving back and forth is smooth. I use the CarPlay side for: Maps. Apple maps works great for me in my location. It's more up to date than the built in navigation on my 8000NEX, updates are free and I can ask for directions through voice commands. I can set my destination at the office on my iPhone, and CarPlay picks it up when I get into the car. All of my favorite destination are available without having to re-enter them into the NEX navigation. Music. All of my music is either on my phon
  9. I am not sure of your setup, but my album artwork looks fine on CarPlay playing from my iPhone 6. I also use iTunes Match.
  10. No problems with my iPhone 6, iOS 8.1 and v1.08. What kind of charging cradle are you using? I just use the Lightning cable hooked up to USB 1. Perhaps it's an issue with the cradle.. Have you tried just hooking up the Lightning cable?
  11. For you guys with an external amp, are you using the high and low bypass filters on the amp, on the NEX or both? I currently am using the NEX8000 with replacement speakers, without an external amp, but with a powered sub.
  12. You can turn off auto connect for WiFi on your phone. I do this for security reasons, as I want to know what WiFi I am connected to.
  13. Not to be sarcastic... But what does it support? Not much it seems to me. After all of this waiting, there does not appear to be any feature that I need or want in this update.
  14. This was my question on the iDatalink forum: Now that Pioneer has released the 1.08 firmware update for their NEX radios, I was wondering how to go about getting sync (2010 Ford Edge) ready to work with my Maestro RR. I know that I need to get the latest firmware update for the RR. My question is this. I am using the analog (1/8" mini plug) connection from the RR to my 8000NEX. After I flash the RR, should I replace the mini analog cable with the digital connection? And there answer: The blue 4-pin plug will no longer be used for the steering wheel controls; please remove it. The
  15. I have asked this same question on the Maestro forum. Right now, my 8000NEX is connected to the Meastro RR through the analog 1/8" cable. A am assuming that after I flash the RR I will be able to hook up the digital cable and remove the analog one. I am waiting on a answer before I open up the dash.
  16. Are you using an iPhone 6 or 6 plus?
  17. Or you can't hear it. I can't , but that doesn't mean it's not there. As we get older, we lose the ability to hear tones in the high kHz range. (above 15 kHz). I'm going to get my SLM out and see if I can see the frequency and dB level of the noise.
  18. From reading all of the comments, I believe that the popping noise is happening to a small number of people. It certainly is not happening to me. So far, The only negative for me is the more metallic sound I hear during a call through CarPlay. Everything else works for me. What people have to keep in mind is the vast number of different configurations out there. I have an 8000NEX, using the factory speaker wiring through a F01 harness hooked up to a maestro RR. I do not have the HU hooked up to a separate amp for the front and rear speakers, but I do have a separate powered subwoof
  19. Hey, this happened to me as well when I went into airplane mode by mistake...
  20. Not for me. When you say white noise, is it a low or high frequency sound? With no audio playing, does the dB level of the white noise increase with increased volume?
  21. I agree. The pinch/zoom thing was not too usefull on the vertical screen. At least for me. I do like the +- better.
  22. Mine seems to be worse as well, but it's too soon to say for sure. The best description I can use is it sounds a tad metallic... Call quality is a bit hit and miss for me normally, so time will tell.
  23. I am not 100% sure, but I believe that the phone functionality still needs to have bluetooth pairing.
  24. I am running 8.1 with no issues. I was having some bluetooth phone issues with 8.02, but they went away with 8.1. Everything is still fine with CarPlay update. You might try to reset network settings on the phone, and remove the iPhone from the pioneer bluetooth stack. Reboot everything and pair again.
  25. I agree with at of you that the song graphics needs to be brighter. That is my only real complaint right now. On the plus side, I love the maps. I never eally used the navigation in my 8000NEX because, like every other car nav system, entering in destinations is a royal pain. I always used my iPhone instead. With CarPlay, that part is super easy. All of my destinations are on my phone, and I can use them with the 8000, and it's real easy to use Siri for new ones. I also love the messages. I used it four times on the way home to reply to incoming texts, very clean and easy. I
