  1. why should you want to try a eu firmware on a us box? it's clearly written on their side...
  2. if you want to have a deck what just works when pressing the screen... Kenwood. Bluetooth is much much better. you even have SMS text with the right phone and latest firmware. stay away from some Nokia's. the common talk of people is the simplistic user interface of the Kenwood. sure it looks like and mini computer terminal from the 80's BUT IT JUST WORKS!!! also the main problem of the Pioneer is the that the screen touch buttons of the user interface are to small for your fingers when driving... this deck is fine on the bench but not really in a moving vehicle on bumpy roads. ju
  3. thanks for this info as also i found the mp3 stuff horrible to listen at.. will see if i can borrow the ipod from my daughter.
  4. this is a setting in the variable_def.ui file 0= off 1=on
  5. make sure that your antenna is on... try to listen to a radio station and check it again. if that works then you know it that setting.
  6. but what if he uses the same phone when he had the avic-d3... changed the deck and now needs to change the phone too
  7. @mikeinnj, thanks for your excellent review about the kenwood & pioneer decks. as you can see i have both decks (missus uses the kenwood in her car and i use the pioneer in mine) and fully agree with your review. the only thing is that the avic-f900bt does has speedpulse and a very good gyroscope what give excellent position. another thing i miss with the pioneer is dtmf tomes when calling since with the pioneer it's impossible to use automated exchanges and calling your voice mail box. i mean, press 1 for sales, press 2 for support etc. also there is no way to make a priva
  8. i do it this way... i copy the files i want to modify out the data.zip and modify them on my computer. then i copy only those files back head unit via a sd card. you have to create the correct folder structure you find in the data.zip file. so i don't modify or change any thing on the head unit but add my modified files. so i can go back very simple by just delete the added file. no need to zip or unzip etc. and if you make a error in one of the added file it's easy to correct.
  9. i use a mix of sd, micro & mini sd cards without any problems... sizes are 256mb till 2gb.
  10. well, i'm only working in the IT since 1979
  11. skip vista and get windows 7 (when released) if you really want to upgrade from xp
  12. - when searching for addresses by using the postcode search the ability to include a house number
  13. that's what i gone try since i have a 3g dongle
  14. i had a quick look through the ui files in side the data.zip file and they are cleaned from most of the obsolete code what was there before so some one really went through it to clean it up.
  15. so you used the US bluetooth firmware on a EU head unit?
  16. the good news is that even after this firmware update our windos ce boot sd card still works! i already added my hacks back to this new firmware version.
  17. so why did you fork out all those extra $$$ and bought the dnx8120 that time and not the dnx5120? anyway good luck with your new avic-f700bt and hoop the best with the yet to be seen firmware update...
  18. how can your kenwood take 1 minute to get in the navigation screen??? in about 20 sec i can start to search for an address and create the route in my wifes car who has the dnx5220 (eu version)... this will take more then a minute before i can even get to the address search menu with my 900
  19. there is also another problem. the sat nav part of this unit... if the sat nav is starting this slow as it does most people are already driving their vehicles while it still boots. this does create a problem with the calibration of the sat nav. when you park your vehicle the sat nav remembers your position and uses that the moment the sat nav boots up. now every day the sat nav has to recalibrate it self since when the sat nav software is up and running the position is not the same. it takes about 1 minute to start and in 1 minute you can be far away from the last known position. also now
  20. yep, mine will be soon on ebay... the route recalculating is related to the TMC. the box is taking even irrelevant info (not in your route) to recalculate the route while there isn't anything to recalculate! the only fix is to turn it off, but then why do you have TMC? see a second kenwood soon.
  21. make sense indeed, but now i can hack without zip and unzip what is easier for me.
  22. not sure why there is a data.zip file on the hu. i have extracted the whole data.zip file (39mb) and copied the extracted data via a sd card back to the hu. after this i have deleted the data.zip file from the hu. rebooted the hu and it still runs but it has no faster boot time what i was hooping anyway now i can just hack the files without having to zip and unzip.
  23. the only update i can see is a complete rewrite of the code. having going through the code for some time now i can only say what a crap! what pioneer should do is contracting a real software company who is gone rewrite the code to make it all happen the way it should work. the current code is being written by some local chinese student hackers creating a chaos of non working code with more patches than the local council road. the used hardware is fine but it’s the software side what makes this head unit a complete joke. so lets hope pioneer is doing it right this time and giving us the h
