mickeyvnminnie
I'm a Comp Sci person so don't tell me this is too complex for me to do but here is my problem, has anyone did this on a dell system before? All the systems I have are Dell and they all require cable select mode! none work with master/slave you have 2 choices in the BIOS setup for the hard drive controller... OFF or Auto Cable Select... I tried the drive as master on its secondary IDE channel but it didn't detect it at all.. thought wierd... so tried the systems main hard drive in master mode and it wouldn't detect it either... only in Cable select mode would it ever work... so rejumpered the main HDD to CS and went online to look up this toshiba automotive drive's jumper settings... found how to switch it to CS mode... but still doesnt work! not sure if this drive has different jumpers or not... couldnt find specific jumper settings for it only "older models" jumper settings for notebook drives and "newer model" jumper settings... tried them both.. none worked... put it back in my AVIC-Z2 and drive works... so its not the drive itself... kinda think it's dell's IDE controller being stupid with the required cable select mode... so I ordered today a PCI IDE controller for my newer SATA only system to try on there... hopefully this IDE card has master/slave mode and works! if not might be my 2.5 to 3.5 inch IDE adapter thats bad... just bought it though... for a whole $3... IDE card was a whole $9 so, so far not too far money wise into this... anyone else every have this problem with a dell system doing this? i only have one dell system with IDE to test this on the other 2 have SATA only... I have a Dell too. All I have to do is to plug the drive to an IDE cable by itself and it works. Of cource you have to change the settings in the BIOS.

The only BIOS settings I have are Off and CableSelect for the type of drive... my comps before that one (which i dont have anymore) had Off Master/Slave and CableSelect
Nim
I have recently upgraded to the Z3 build. Ever since then, I have no Voice-Command button. The mic is connected. Any ideas?
garrettoomey
Make sure the mic is completely plugged in all the way. Do you have the voice activation button the screen?
Nim
Wire got pinched and cut. Repaired. Works now.
CaptainInsaneO
Is it just me or is the voice recognition better on the Z3 firmware? I really feel like it's better, I don't have to spend half an hour saying "AV Operation" now. "Bitchin' Betty", so coined by my gf because of her constant nagging, has not missed a voice command yet, including album titles. And I'm definitely not a mumbler. garrettoomey
Improved voice recognition was one of the enhancements of the Z3 over the Z1 and Z2.
Ilya
I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place but let me get to the point. I am about to purchase a Z-Series AVIC unit, and it seems like I can get a Z2 for under $900 new and just upgrade to a Z3 unit. Fantastic. Now, a little background info. I am desktop support specialist for a living, so this is definitely very simple for me. I already have all the software I need (we use much of it at work ). Anyhow...my questions are as follows: I want to improve the speed as much as possible...do I just need to purchase a 3.5" 7200RPM drive (ATA100/133) or do I need to purchase a laptop (2.5") drive? I assume the RPM speed of the original drive is what can be upgraded to result in a faster overall unit? What are these rebooting issues people are having? Any particular hard drive you guys recommend? To rip MP3's onto the hard drive...will it read a DVD Data Disc with all of my MP3's on it? Or do I need to burn 20 at time onto an 'audio cd"? Is the Z3 image already hacked with all the latest bypasses, etc.? Thanks for any and all help everyone. I appreciate it.
matt23
I downloaded the ginormous Z3 image via BitTorrent and did the procedures as listed here in this thread and in the Z3 drive image thread. Now my Z2 is a Z3! the only downside I see is that it appears to take a bit longer to boot up once you start the car. But hey not that big a deal considering what I paid for the upgrade. many thanks to Hyperite, AFMagnum, garrettoomey, and everyone else who's contributed to all the R&D! I'll keep seeding the image for as long as I can, I think I can probably hold onto it through July. -Matt

garrettoomey
It sounds like you may be trying to turn the security off without unlocking the drive first... This is a 2 step process. 1. unlock the drive 2. turn security off with mhdd.
mdmill1
I tried to do the unlock and it says unable to unlock drive after I have already paid for it.
