sethpalenscar
I can recommend do net restore whole z2 image, but first two partitions into your old z1 drive. This will allow you to keep all your music and user settings. Is this possible? I am thinking that the Z2 image contains special attributes in these 2 partitions that are different from the Z1. Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone tried to restore only the first 2 partitions? Any success on keeping your music while upgrading to the Z2 image?
garrettoomey
Yes, you can just resore the first 2 partitions and save your music, address book, etc. -G

I know I am only going to restore the first two to avoid erasing my music. Do I need to restore the "MBR and track 0"?
garrettoomey
I am not sure if you "have to" restore the boot and MBR, but it definately works if you do, and it only takes about 1 second. -G

Everything seems to work fine and I kept all of my music and settings. Looks like either way will work.

smarsh
Thanks Dtomcat.... I wish there was real people in Southern California, but unless I'm friends with Stephen Spielberg or I'm invited to a party with Angelina Jolie, no one in SoCal will help me for the simple offer of drinks- which I would gladly pay anytime. I appreciate your Florida hospitality. Mark did you get someone to help you? i'm in San Diego, i would do it for you if you just send me a drive... you can PM me if you like
3ddie Bear
Any from or near El Paso, Texas? I decided to buy one that was already upgraded, but I am going to try one with a 120gig, just to see if it works. BTW I am new to the forum, but have seen your post for a while. I would like to thank all the posters, for their info. I hope I can contribute. I'll let you all (Y'ALL) if the 120gig hdd works.

Doing a reset (using a paper clip or whatever) using the reset hole next to eject will fix it. Or atleast it did for others. Good Luck and report back if it did or did not help you! fklentz
I installed a toshiba 60 gig drive a few weeks ago, I just pulled the old drive out and put it away. It's been working ok so far, I had to do a reset to get the navtraffic to work properly and it is still having some issues. Today on the drive to work I recorded some burned discs to the HD, worked ok but on the way home I did notice the navtraffic was acting up then suddenly it did a reboot, first time since the install. After rebooting the navtraffic was back, no other problems noticed so far.
jbhorne
Is it recommended to perform a level 4 reset after changing out the HD from a Z1 to a Z2? I was surprised to notice that the audio settings among others remained during the switch. I guess these are in the Flash ROM or RAM and not stored in any way on the HD. This is why I am considering a solid, good reset. Any ideas?
SickRick2007
Thanks Magnum... Worked like a charm (though I'm an IT/PC specialist, so this stuff is childs play for me). Now I need to yank my console apart to change from the DucatiBoy flasher mod, to the 2 wire mod. Also applied the firmware update for the freeze-on-boot issue (which started right after my Z1 went out of warranty). If anyone is in SoFla (fort lauderdale) area and needs this done, I have the facilities to take care of it for you... Rick
